just like cooper, mills is like the only dem in the state who has proven able to win a statewide election, which is precisely what the democrats need here. it's not a terrible option to have on the ballot.

if Platner loses the primary, then I guess Maine doesn't want him as their senator. and if he wins, then great. and cross our fingers he does well in the general.

but the progressive candidates last cycle didn't even get 30% of the primary vote. of course sara gideon ended up losing to collins pretty bad in the general, but collins was a relatively strong candidate (5 terms incumbent, stood up to trump, etc) and gideon ran a pretty ineffective campaign with not a lot more to say than just "collins bad!!" rather than a positive vision for maine and the country. and I blame the DSCC for that too. Just like the progressive wing the establishment dems relied on scaremongering the base for donations and pumping negative sentiment again the GOP, which in both cases ultimately doesn't do much to convince swing voters to show up for Dems. will Mills fall into the DSCC playbook and end up losing too, or maintain a "y'all recruited me bc I know Maine and Maine knows me, so let me cook" approach? guess we'll see. but let's at least do the whole democracy thing and have a competitve primary and see who the people want to represent the party.
