Spread the word that he and potentially Wall will be at the game tomorrow. The last thing we need is to get the shit beaten out of us and have people yelling shit at the coach and booing the team with these 2 sitting behind the bench.
Its one thing to lose, but dont fucking embarass us in front of these kids. 2/29/2008 10:39:01 AM |

hopefully the team doesn't embarrass us.
i lold last game thinking about if there had been any recruits there. they would have given us an immediate "no." between how terrible our team played, sid's coaching, the spattered booing and screaming at sidney, and the freaking chic fil a cows dancing at halftime....it was a dadgom circus in there. 2/29/2008 11:01:46 AM |

I actually think if Wall sees a game where we just suck it up it'll help us.
He's gotta look at our roster/games and know he'll get immediate PT as a freshman, if not start. We need a 'creating' PG in the worst way. Javi is getting better, but as for now, he's not much of a 'drive and kick' type player. He passes it around the 3 pt line, but won't go to the hole to create anything. Degand was much better at this, albeit not that great at it
We need someone who if passing around isn't working, can drive in and either hit a floater or draw some defenders and dump it to Hickson/Smith/McCauley/Costner underneath

yeah and it's ridiculous too because javi is so quick. there's at least five times a game where he noticeably beats his defender off the dribble but then stops instead of taking it to the hoop or getting a sweet assist (ala fergy last game lol). i guess it's because once he gets into the paint he's usually clueless as to what to do next.
but yeah hopefully john wall likes immediate pt. 2/29/2008 11:26:56 AM |

Someone at least get the wolfpack club to announce at distribution tomorrow that the students sitting behind the bench need to watch their mouths. The kid is coming with his mom. IMO this is a huge day for us because we can likely get a commit from Brown WAY before wall or anyone else, so he could get the ball rolling for us.
I don't think we need to win tomorrow, but we need to play hard and our fans need to keep their mouths shut behind the bench (if they have something to say to sidney. The usual "FUCK D00k" is ok by me)

Rose will be gone this year likely (or next year definitely) and Memphis will have a spot at the 1 open up for him. I don't see any other outcome than Wall going to that basketball organization. I try to keep talking myself into the whole "he'll stay home to be close to family/friends" thing but I just can't do it.
Brown is our most realistic shot at a big-timer for that class IMO..

A perfect example of the impact one recruit can have on a basketball program's fortunes is Illinois. They had a verbal commitment from Eric Gordon, but he backed out of it and signed with Indiana instead. Indiana's overall record is 24-4, and 13-2 in the conference making them a game out of a 3 way tie for 1st place with Purdue (23-6, 14-2) and Wisconsin (24-4, 14-2). Illinois, a program that was just in the 2005 National Championship game and ended the season with a 37-2 record, tying the NCAA record for most wins in a season, has an overall record of 12-17 and a conference record of 4-12. They are second to last in the Big Ten standings. And it's not like the Big Ten is all that great of a conference anyways.
I hope Wall and Brown were impressed. That's the way we should have been playing all year. Maybe we can go all New York Giants with this loss and go on a tear all the way to the ACC Championship! (wishful thinking)

This is what someone posted on the OFFICIAL LORENZO BROWN THREAD!! over on PP.
Quote : | "Alright guys, here is the scoop from what I hear.
Brown and his mother were very very impressed with NCSU and Brown now claims us as his leader but he is still going to Memphis. He said that the environment was nuts in the RBC and he does not think it can be matched. For now, we will have to wait until after the Memphis visit" |
Wow if he thinks that was nuts he should see what it's like when we have a good team. I remember my ears hurting at one point during a game against Wake a few years ago. We went on a run, had some good defensive stops and Wake had to call a timeout and the crowd got even louder than it already was. After the crowd died down some I realized my ears hurt like I was at a heavy metal concert.
Good to see we are his leader.3/3/2008 9:56:41 PM |

I say we take the Roy Williams approach. Not actually give anything to the recruits while they are playing here, but allow boosters to give them "graduation gifts" after they are done here.

Fuck Memphis. If this kid is a competitor he'll come to State. Starting recruiting right now, I wouldn't take one damn person on their team with maybe the exception of Rose. They're not that good, Calipari is not a good coach, and you saw him get exposed by another poorly coached team in Tennessee. They even struggle to beat shitty teams in their own fucking conference, which is terrible.
I'm not saying we're better than memphis. Quite the opposite. They have great players, but I will argue that Sidney could do MUCH more with the same amount of talent they currently have. Thats playground ball they play. Same with Tenn.
**disclaimer** I in no way think that Tenn and Memphis are bad teams, but after watching that game last weekend, you see what I'm talking about. Neither team has any half court offense, they take stupid shots on nearly every posession.....but they also have some GREAT players that play hard which makes up for a lot. 3/3/2008 10:10:54 PM |

Calipari is a GREAT coach... just a slimeball too, though.
As far as Rose being the only player I'd want... well, I'd take CDR over anyone on our roster and anyone who has played for us other than Hodge the last decade...
V Memphis had an awesome OOC schedule... though if UConn plays them now and not at the beginning of the year, they win. I fully believe that.

Basically I said memphis hasn't played anyone worth a fuck when tenn and memphis played each other, neither team looked good. They just jacked up 3's, ran fast breaks, and played 1 on 1. Street ball. You get the point.
^I disagree on Cal being a great coach. He's had some GREAT players, and getting them is part of coaching, but as far as x's and o's, he has never impressed me, and 2 weekends ago confirmed it again. That was my only point.

I just can't see how good of a coach he is if his team is 311 out of 313 teams in the nation in free throw shooting. I mean, that's pathetic. Having a team that doesn't play like a bunch of goons.
Look, I'm not trying to start shit here. Look at the facts. Calipari has had some ridiculous talent come through everywhere he's coached. Is that part of the equation? yes. Do I wish we could have that same thing here? yes. At the same time, do I think he can hang on a daily basis with coaches in the ACC or Big East given the same amount of talent? I guess we dont know, but I'm guessing no.
(or on the other hand, do I think we can get those players into school here or anywhere else in the ACC? fuck no) 3/3/2008 10:29:45 PM |

To a point, I agree with you. Especially early in the game...its easier to play D when you're fired up and harder to stay within yourself on offense. The thing I hated though was the sheer number of retarded shots I saw between BOTH teams that night. You take some of those shots in the ACC and your ass is on the bench, or if you make the shot, you get a "good job, never do that again" look from your coach. Neither team has any real offense in the half court. They do have some great players that can break you down which is fun and all, but thats the thing....against good defensive teams you get exposed. Both teams had that problem that night.3/3/2008 10:35:41 PM |
