McMillan to ASU in case you have not heard.

fucking herb, we fired his ass 5 years too late. had we canned him after 5 he would be at a mid-major conference, coaching a bunch of white dudes into mediocrity. since we did it after 10 years, it made our fans look bad, and him look like a prince for putting up with NC State for so long. oh well....fuck herb anyways.

Yeah, when we run someone out of town we expect them to take it like a man and suck for the next few years, but Herb had the gaul to actually sign a couple of the players he has been recruiting for years.

What an A-Hole

i don't think anyone really knows

people are citing the fact that CW was and still is our #1 target as being the reason we didnt go after Jmac

i guess we'll see

State fans make all sorts of excuses but I don't think us gunning for CW is why Jmac chose ASU.

I don't think we'll land CW either.

no, not a bit

fuck herb, and fuck you too....your mentality and the fact that you think herb was a "great" coach is everything that is wrong with NC State sports, and our fans right now.

i wish herb well, just think that the way we finally got rid of him benefited him more than us, had we done it when we should have, after year 5....NC State would have been better off

I would rather lose every game, I am talking 0-25 for the next 3 years then watch 1 more fucking game coached by herb sendek at ncsu (every game for 10 years to not watch him coach another carolina or duke game)

^agreed!

yeah we made the tournament each year, but the team was not getting any better, we were topping out at 1-3 wins in the tournament. that's good, that'll be great for asu, they'll love him. we are a team w/ many acc tournament and season wins, an undefeated season and two national championships with two different coaches, and are within 20 minutes of two teams that are legitimate contenders for the championship every year, and i'm supposed to be excited about making the tournament? no thanks.

I'm pretty pissed about losing Jamelle, but I feel like we weren't on him that hard in the first place. I'm still glad Sendek is gone provided we dont lose every game this season.

"Man, this sucks. We can't even get a legacy to at least come for an OV.
It's not too unexpected, given the connection between Sendek and
McMillan, but the quote below is troubling to me.

McMillan said that he had only heard from new N.C. State coach Sidney
Lowe once in the past month a text message since he returned from Las
Vegas at the end of July.

``I saw Sidney Lowe a couple of times in July, but I havent talked to
him in a month, McMillan said

I just don't understand that at all. Here's hoping we can pry Chris
Wright away from G'Town. I really thought McMillan would end up here.

Here's the whole article in case you don't have premium.

The Sun Devils are red hot since Herb Sendek took over with the latest
piece of good news coming when Jamelle McMillan committed to Arizona
State after a weekend visit.
The 6-foot-2 McMillan, who is the son of NBA coach and former player
Nate McMillan, chose the Sun Devils over Sendeks former employer N.C.
State.

``Ive known these guys forever and theyve been recruiting me as hard as
anyone in the world, McMillan said. They had two or three guys at every
game.

``Theyve been honest and are guys you can trust, McMillan added of the
staff. They are down to earth, have fun and are a bunch of clowns.

McMillan is a huge get for Sendek & Co. because of his ability to run a
team and defend. McMillan was slated to take official visits to N.C.
State and Clemson, but he didnt feel the need to continue the recruiting
process.

``Coach Sendek even busted out a new pair of Nikes for me, McMillan
joked. That supposedly never happens.

``I had a great visit and met with a lot of people while I was there,
he added. This is exciting. James Harden committed, Eric Boateng is
there and its a great situation for me.

McMillan said that he had only heard from new N.C. State coach Sidney
Lowe once in the past month a text message since he returned from Las
Vegas at the end of July.

``I saw Sidney Lowe a couple of times in July, but I havent talked to
him in a month, McMillan said.

``I just felt that Arizona State was the best situation for me, he
added. Coach Sendek is expecting me to come right in and hit the floor.
Its a situation where they are building and reconstructing something and
I want to be a part of that."

the fact that Herb has been after him for years
plus ASU is close to his dad's job in Portland made for a good fit.

I dont blame Sid at all for this. There is also rumors that this was a done deal weeks ago and just recently announced. IF true, and who knows....that may be a reason Sid didnt go after him

Quote :
"Departure of Sendek hurt State's recruiting
Davis, Werner got unconditional releases from Pack

By John Delong

N.C. State's 2006 recruiting class seemed set by the time State ended last season with a second-round loss to Texas in the NCAA Tournament.

Guard Larry Davis and forwards Dan Werner and Dennis Horner had signed national letters of intent in November, and Coach Herb Sendek already had a commitment for 2007 from guard Chris Wright.

Then Sendek resigned in early April to take the Arizona State job.

After that, things changed drastically during the five-week coaching search that ended with the hiring of Sidney Lowe.

Werner and Davis asked for unconditional releases so they could go elsewhere, and Lowe granted them in June. Davis wound up at Seton Hall, and Werner wound up at Florida.

With State suddenly minus two-thirds of the expected Class of 2006, Lowe's staff hit the recruiting trail again and landed center Bartosz Lewandowski. Another player, guard Farnold Degand, transferred in from Iowa State.

So when this recruiting version of musical chairs ended, Lowe was left with Horner and Lewandowski as incoming freshmen and Degand, who will be eligible for the 2007-08 season.

The sequence dropped State from a fair haul to a bad haul in the eyes of recruiting analysts.

SuperPrep.com rated State's class No. 9 in the ACC and gave it a grade of B-minus when Davis, Werner and Horner were included. In revised rankings after the defections of Davis and Werner, SuperPrep.com rated the class as the ACC's worst and did not assign a letter grade.

"I think they lost a whole lot more than they gained," Brick Oettinger of SuperPrep.com said. "They lost what we considered the best two of their recruits. We had Davis (No. 77) and Werner (No. 84) both in our final top 100, and Horner (No. 176) in the second hundred. So those were significant losses."

The rankings don't include guard Trevor Ferguson, who enrolled at State last winter and will be listed as a freshman. Ferguson was not highly rated coming out of high school.

Lowe's media availability has been limited as he hit the recruiting trail and as he tries to make the conversion from the NBA to college basketball.

Athletics Director Lee Fowler has often served as State's spokesman this summer. He wouldn't analyze the strengths or weaknesses of Horner, Lewandowski and Degand, but did offer a positive assessment.

"Sidney said from the start he only wanted people who really wanted to play for State," Fowler said. "So we came out of this with players who really want to play for State."

Fowler said it was perhaps inevitable that there would be some changes in the recruiting class after Sendek left.

"The opening up of the coaching job created a situation we had to deal with," Fowler said. "We went through the process, and we got the coach we are very happy with. So this doesn't say bad things about us, it just goes with the territory when you have a coaching change. We were a little put back because you could understand if they wanted to go with Herb to Arizona State, because if you're going somewhere to play for a specific coach, none of that changed. And nothing about N.C. State changed except for the coach.

"This happens pretty much across the board. If an assistant coach is hired, sometimes it doesn't affect the recruits as much. But these things happen. You look at Oklahoma, I think they lost all of their recruits after their coach (Kelvin Sampson) went to Indiana. It's just an unfortunate situation when you have to go through it."

Horner, a 6-7, 190-pound small forward from Absecon, N.J., stands the best chance of contributing next season. He has been regarded as a smart, disciplined player with a nice face-up game on the perimeter and a solid jump shot. With State's lack of depth after the departure of three seniors and Cedric Simmons, Horner will likely be part of the rotation.

Lewandowski, a 7-3, 245-pounder from Poland, played last season at Bridgton Academy in Maine. Lewandowski was not considered an ACC-caliber recruit and is a long-term project at best.

"We rate him as the least-athletic big man entering the ACC, and that covers some territory," Oettinger said. "I mean, you can't teach a guy to be 7-2 or whatever he is. But at the same time, to be a less-athletic Serge Zwikker, as one person called him, when you're not strong and not athletic, that's two strikes against you."

Degand, a 6-3, 170-pounder from Boston, redshirted at Iowa State last season and will be two years removed from game competition by the time he plays again.

"He wasn't a widely sought high-school player, and his first year at Iowa State, he was redshirted because they didn't think he was good enough to help them," Oettinger said. "He originally was a wing guard and now supposedly he has calmed down enough to be a point guard in a year after he sits out. But that remains to be seen. I personally think Sidney can recruit a better point guard from the high-school ranks or wherever. Someone like Chris Wright would certainly step in ahead of Degand, even if Degand's been in the program a year."

But Wright pulled his commitment after Sendek left and is anything but a lock for Lowe.

That's symbolic of what recruiting has been like for State since Sendek left."

why am I stupid, i just don't like herb. that is my opinion, not yours.

too many of you folks talk wins and losses when you look at herb, and tournament appearances. fact is he did not coach a brand of basketball that i wanted to watch. i have been living on Tobacco road since 1990, been to plenty of duke games, carolina games, and state games, in reynolds too, which i am sure half of you fuckers on here can't claim. for most of you, herb is all you have known, and you were comftorable with him....I on the other hand was not, he promised us an up-tempo change "as soon as he got the athletes" (this never happened) he promised up more passion and excitement (then i have to watch a presser where he states that the carolina game is no different than any other)

fact is, he put a product on the floor that had state basketball fans apathetic, even the ones that went and supported herb were not excited about it for the most part. and for college athletics all I can ask for "my university" to try to put a product on the floor that I want to watch, and can be proud of. were you genuinly proud of our team? the ncaa appearances were nice, but did we get anything from that, that is not something the national media really even recognized until we fired our coach. i wish herbie the best, try not to bash him, and tell everyone what a clean program he ran, and nice guy he seemed to be to the players. but i was at my wits end with him, and couldn't have been happier when he left!

i have been living on tobacco road all 30 years of my life. been to plenty of unc games in chapel hell and have been to a couple of d00k games in durham.

when i came to state, Les was coaching NCSU.....and all my games during college were played in Reynolds......I know the history of MY program

i come from a NCSU family and State was the only college i wanted to come to.
not to mention this:

for you to say that you would rather MY NCSU lose every game instead of watching Herb is just fucking stupid / no matter who you are.

and by the way, Herb fired us....not the other way around
and i cant blame him b/c of ignorant fans like you

of course i want to see the program win, I love NC State, but we were headed nowhere with herb, in my opinion. i have not been one of the vocal mudslingers during the process of herb leaving, and I stand by nobody elses opinions or posts but my own. it was time for hime to go, and you fucks that keep an ASU thread open, touting every success of herb are the problem with the fanbase, not me.

Youre missing the point. Noone gives a shit about your opinion of sendeks ability to coach basketball, nor your ability to enjoy his style of game. We all have one, we've all shared them.

Its the fact that you would essentially not have our team play than have sendek as coach that is pathetic. You claim you only want whats best for the program and are a fan, but then you say stupid shit like

Don't forget we have already signed one pg for 07 in Degand, and Wright is still our # 1 priority. Although many people think JM would play the 2, there are not many schools that would sign 3 pg's in one class.

Herb would've taken all of these commits and really tapped into their potential. he would never ever have castrated their athleticism with his precious little ivy league offense, which obviously wass a smashing success in a league such as the ACC.

i mean, that's exactly what Herb did isnt it? he definitely let athletic players run with the ball. he did it in the past, and he would've done it with these commits.

oh and another thing, he would definitely emphasize sound rebounding and boxing out fundamentals to these splendid talented youngsters. because that's exactly what he did this past season. everytime we missed a three, one of our guys was there to rebound. yes, Herb definitely got this right.

since is raw IQ is probably higher than most coaches, it obviously meant his BBall IQ was up there too. he absolutely without a doubt understood that fundamentals such as rebounding are not a tradeoff with the type of offense he ran.

furthermore, his BBall smarts showed gloriously the way he charmed/bullied the refs with the same effectiveness that Coack K and Roy did. i mean, this man really understood that diplomacy is an undeniable part of the winning equation.

last but not least, Herb embodied the "Never give up" cardiovascularity that supposedly runs in the veins of the Wolfpack nation. he didn't leave until we fired him. when Coach K came under relentless fire in the past, he got up and left. Herb didn't.

^^ WolfMiami, that rhetorical and very true post you did regarding how bad Sendek was at State I liked alot!

Let's just hope that Sid can at least pull off a winning season (and maybe even a NCAA tourney bid) his first year (even though we are rebuilding). Aside from the Center situation (losing Ced), we really do have some good talent coming back this season and could potentially pull a pre- Villanova type (fast paced all-guard offense) style offense with the players we have...

Gavin Grant (G) (he had two 20-point games last season when he did his own thing and left that Princeton shit alone)

Courtney Fells (G) (this guy didn't have alot of playing time as a freshman, but made REALLY good plays when he did considering the shitty offense Herb ran at the time)

Brandon Costner (G/F) (Although he was hurt much of the '05-06 season, he was a major prospect out of high school (#23 overall in 2005 and McDonald's All-American) and shot pretty well from the 3 in the earlier games. Could show some really good game this season.

Engin Atsur (G) (one of the best ball-handler's in the ACC with a good, but streaky 3-point shot. Knows how to make steals, has experience, and one of the most level-headed players in college bball)

Dennis Horner or Ben McCauley (G/F) /Andrew Brackman or Bartosz Lewandowski (C) (Depending on what type of offensive formation Sid's has in store for us this year, and if Brackman sticks around, Ben has shown that he knows a thing or two about fancy footwork around the basket, Dennis is a good prospect recruit last year and might break out early, and Andrew B. will probably be the most likely pick for this spot assuming that he doesn't fully convert to baseball. If not Brackman, then Bartosz Lewandowski (a 7-3 center from Poland) might be a early big star as well...)

look at this burst of people in this thread being REALISTIC about herb. this program simply wasn't making progress and was hardly at a point where it's unreasonable to ask for improvement, i dare anyone to tell me i'm wrong.

i am also part of an nc state family, my greatgrandfather went here, my grandfather played football here and my father and aunt both went here. as soon as i got my acceptance letter here i didn't bother finishing applications elsewhere, this was the only school i wanted to come to (i'm currently out of state as well, mind you). with my literally undying love of state in mind, i would rather see MY NC STATE have a slew of bad seasons if it meant potentially returning to the national championship status that my father got to experience when he was my age. i want to be able to talk shit to unc fans and actually believe it. this would've never happened with herb here. i wish him the best, i'm glad he's gone.

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Everything I've read on lewandowski points to big lug that is a project at best, and will need a few years of development before he even sees the court as a backup. He's a 2 star recruit and he's 7-2 or whatever. Lowe will have to work a miracle to get a significant minute from this guy this year.

I think we have a good enough starting lineup to compete this year in the ACC, but I'm worried that being 6 deep will really hurt us at some point....be it early or late in the season.

We could go 8 deep if Brack plays (Gavin, Fells, Trevor, Atsur, Horner, Costner, McCauley, Brack).

If someone gets hurt, though, we're going to be pretty much screwed.
