^ that video reminded of this other video i'd seen that explains the historical and theological role of jerusalem in islam. it would of course help if you watch the entire thing, but the 10-15 min at the end really does get down to the core issue in this conflict, which i've been trying to explain to y'all. for the muslim world (at least for the theological and political elite for the last few centuries...most of the normie ummah are more or less just mindlessly rooting for their inherited cultural and spiritual sports team), it's about the legitimacy of islam as the successor to judaism and christianity and its therefore divinely ordained rightful place, favored by Allah, above all other nations. we typically think today in the west about nations which have borders and choose to live in peace (or not) alongside each other, but that's not really the way the muslim world has historically operated (or the west for that matter obviously, but we've pretty well completed that transition), and the resistance to accept israel (as a jewish state in particular) as a legitimate and equally valid state is fundamentally a reflection of the narrative of islam (or charitably, the politically and theologically victorious subset of islam), and to give up that narrative either destroys islam, or islam must accept that it must find a way to adapt (in the same way that the christian world "gave up" some of its theological arguments against homosexuality or slavery for example (and btw islam still hasn't done either)) in order to accept peace alongside the jews
