or is it already popped?

Being popped.
It's just a beginning I believe.

So, let me get this straight, the stocks are plunging so sharply in China now that companies have just decided to stop trading? Is there any historical precedent for that?

Kinda wild that so many of us were spiking the football in the end zone 10 years ago when China had an investment bubble pop (including myself in this). Now we are at a point where they essentially have the USA by the balls and seem like they are ready to twist.

If we had gotten an 8-year Clinton administration in 2016 we could have buried China for another 25 years, especially if the USA had played COVID just a little more strategically. Instead I’m researching Mandarin immersion pre-schools for my kids.

I hope you're not seriously researching that. If there's one thing that will persist about the US, it's that a poor command of basic English should be enough for anyone to make it here.

The only reason I am not researching them is that I don’t even think such luxuries exist in my region of NC.

I can think of several scenarios where knowing Mandarin might be a decent advantage in my children’s lifetime, the next 15 to 30 years is the timeframe I keep thinking about. It really depends on how bad you think the coming ball twist is going to be. They are both lower probability outcomes, but I could see my kids needing to climb the corporate ladder at Huawei or even negotiate for extra rations at the re-education camp in those time frames.

The scenario I keep thinking about comes from my experiences with international students while in grad school. Some were mediocre like me but most were really intelligent, and doing it all in a second language. Given a portion of our country’s hostility to higher education and what I saw happen to higher education institution budgets in the 2008-2011 timeframe it’s not hard to imagine American higher education plummeting in value in a 15 year time frame. If that’s the case, I want my kids to be Sun-Yat Sen University Lions.
