Yeah. A lot of work to do. This wasn’t supposed to be a rebuild. This was supposed to be team and roster built to compete right away. It just ain’t working. Plenty of season left but we’re looking at a bubble team best case right now. And that’a really disappointing given the hype and investment and self promotion going on

I'm just shooting the shit here, but before Whittenburg was injured (Jan 12th), we'd played 3 ranked teams. And we lost to two of them (beat #20 WVU, and lost to #14 Louisville and #15 Missouri). And he was injured when we were playing a #2 Virginia. And we lost that game too.

It looks like the other games before his injury were cup-cakes (except maybe an unranked Mchigan St., who we beat 45-41, and Clemson).

Wade’s shit gets old quick. Talking about the team being soft, lacking an identity, not practicing well on Friday, etc…yeah all that seems accurate. But we’re in mid February and he assembled the team. That shit becomes the coach’s fault. If players don’t give a shit in practice then don’t play them. He seems to want to hold his players to a high standard (good) but, like, where’s the follow through? Rotation has been basically the same since Holloman came back from injury. And I’m not dumb enough to believe that Breed or Scottie or whoever else on the bench is actually the answer. But I’m tired of hearing the coach say certain players aren’t playing hard enough or smart enough and not practicing well and yet I guess we just keep rolling out that same dudes. Send a message, Wade. Do something. If it’s DW, for example, then suspend him for a half or take him out of the starting lineup. Something.

Just feels like we’re hearing the same excuses all season and nothings changing. I get it, you can’t just turn this roster into something it’s not. But it’s the coach’s job to motivate players and hold them accountable. Feels like we’re getting a lot of lip service and nothing’s really changing.

^ I mean, he seems to own the losses. He owned that they likely should have used a timeout after the first inbounds fuckup. Reporters are asking him leading questions into some of this stuff, he just answers them.

As far as sending messages to players, I don't know that he isn't doing that with minute reductions. I suspect DW isn't even the main one he's talking about. DW gets beat up on by the public because he was expected to be the super star, and some people don't like the way he's grinning all the time. But he seems to be out there dialed in when the ball is in play.

I suspect Copeland is actually one of the prime suspects the last two games. He's had some real loss of focus moments and I think Wade has sat him a few times as he has seen a little bit of a minutes dip. In fact, now that I look closer, he's had his minutes dipped into more than once over the course of the season, so maybe him being a prime suspect isn't new .

Yea Wade has taken ownership of the bad stuff. And I think he had a quote about addressing the roster failures (poor defense might have been the context) in the offseason. Thats all good. I’m just frustrated as a fan that it’s the same stuff after every loss. “We had a bad week of practice, I saw this coming. We don’t have an edge, we’re too casual, etc.” I trust that he is addressing those issues and trying to prevent it from happening. But at this point it’s just the team we have. They aren’t gonna change in mid February to be something else. I guess it just goes back to the offseason bluster about red reckoning and how we’re gonna play to a high standard and all that. I know some of it just blowing smoke, he’s gotta promote his program. But to have all that offseason talk and still be struggling with players giving a shit is just very frustrating as a fan. Wade set the bar so I think it’s ok to complain when we fall short of expectations.

In the bigger picture of the entire season, I think Wade said he expected us to compete for a top 4 spot in the conference and make the ncaa tournament. That’s basically what we’re doing. Probably won’t finish top 4, but it’s mid February and we’re at least in the mix and we’re still on track to make the ncaa tournament.
