Like every game, they reminded the crowd over the PA that anyone rushing the field would be arrested. I saw a few people get caught, and more than several make-it. I saw a cop trip one guy, the guy got up and kept running, and the cop starting running after him, but then stopped a second later and let him go.

Is the field lower now post-decrowning? The walls look higher, but I might just be seeing that because the soft, cushioning holly bushes aren't there. You could see everyone move towards the wall and want to rush, but after you watch a couple guys get fucked up by cops you're less likely to try.
10/8/2012 2:30:15 PM
^Yes. The wall is now higher.
10/8/2012 2:34:06 PM
I'm not sure if I would have jumped then even without the cops (but I'm old now and usually sober, so who knows)
10/8/2012 2:40:31 PM
If I was there I would have rushed. Criminal trespassing ain't no thang.
10/8/2012 2:41:35 PM
I was toward the first few rows of the SEZ student section. Everyone was kinda pushing down towards the first row and the wall. A few jumped the wall but were promptly restrained by security and/or police. A cop was yelling into a bull horn toward the end of the game and I assume he was saying not to rush the field...it was too loud for me to hear what was being announced. But the way they had security and police lined up deterred most everybody from rushing.[Edited on October 8, 2012 at 2:56 PM. Reason : wowowow]

Someone should send Yow an email and tell her it's time to end the ban on rushing the field. There are so many times it has been worth doing in the last decade and we've never been allowed. We missed the chance in a national spotlight to show the world the extent to which we are wild fans and we let it slip.
10/8/2012 3:13:13 PM
Yep, I agree. Would've been awesome to have rushed the field. But I realize money and safety are big issues. Oh well. And now, not another home game for close to a month. Ugh.
10/8/2012 3:18:06 PM
I'll shot DY an email. I have before and have gotten some good responses from it.
10/8/2012 4:03:58 PM
Just open up gates that lead to the field, no need sending people over walls

I'm trying to skew that poll. Good thing is that you can just refresh to vote again.Voted about 150 times. Now we're over 50%. I'm done.[Edited on October 8, 2012 at 4:16 PM. Reason : dsf]

Yeah, rushing the field should be reserved for things like monumental upsets of top five teams or winning the division by scoring as time expires. Rushing the field should never involve ECU. Ever. And I agree, open the gates and let people on the field. Use the massive amount of security to protect the visiting team goalposts and equipment on the sideline. Also, the athletic department installing collapsible goalposts was a huge waste of money. It's been ten years and they've gotten zero use.[Edited on October 8, 2012 at 6:03 PM. Reason : ^victor stephens. He was a starter, not a no name db.]

the reason we rushed the field after the ECU win. was because the year (or 2 years)before ECU beat State and rushed our field and tore our goalpost down. plus we sucked. it was 1999 i think.^ its a valid point. i think the dude in front of me at the 2002 FSU got his leg broke when the goal post came down. too much risk with 1000s on the field. at the ECU game it was easy everyone rocked it and got out of the way. you just don't see it happen anymore. mainly only at small schools. [Edited on October 8, 2012 at 6:28 PM. Reason : sucks but true ]
10/8/2012 6:21:47 PM
Seriously, we don't need to rush the field for beating Florida State. It's practically expected. Rush the field when something monumental happens. Beat Florida State? Please. Clinch the division and move on the ACC Championship game? I'll rush for that. Beat an SEC team for a change? I'll rush for that. For everyone else, they just want an excuse to do it and say that they did it in their lifetimes. Yeah, it's a good feeling and everyone has a good time, but unless we're going to the ACC Championship, there's no reason to rush the field at all this season.
10/8/2012 6:31:30 PM
You know what I love about the "no rushing the field" policy?IT FINALLY GOT ALL THE MOES ON THIS BOARD TO STOP DEBATING WHEN IT IS AND ISN'T ACCEPTABLE TO RUSH THE FIELD.OH IF THEY'RE A TOP 5 TEAM YOU CAN RUSH, IF THEY'RE IN THE TOP TEN AND YOU'RE OUTSIDE THE TOP 20 YOU CAN RUSH. IF THEY'RE IN THE TOP 17 AND YOU SEIZE THE TIEBREAKER THEN YOU CAN RUSH. IF ITS A RIVALRY GAME AND YOU'RE BOTH RANKED AND THEY'VE BEATEN YOU AT LEAST TWO OF THE LAST THREE TIMES THEN YOU CAN RUSH. YOU CANT RUSH IF YOU WIN BUT YOU GAINED LESS YARDAGE. YOU CAN RUSH IF YOU ARE DOING IT IN IRONIC FASHION BUT NOT IF ITS A MISUSE OF IRONY.God, nothing brings out the protractor crowd faster than the stupid rush the field debates.
10/8/2012 6:39:42 PM
I think we can all agree that this was rush the field worthy. Credit event staff for keeping that under control. I always figured with a win this big, the crowd would overwhelm them.
10/8/2012 6:42:35 PM
^just to clarify, you're saying it's never acceptable to rush?
10/8/2012 6:42:59 PM
No, just for the record (I'm certainly not going to debate this topic any further because it is the worst topic ever discussed on this board and has been going on non stop since the inception of this website.) I err on the side of rushing. If it's close who the fuck are you to tell me not to rush and vice versa? You only get so many years in college and if you're drunk and wanna rush then rush, rush, hurry lover come to me. Any miracle win, huge comeback, win over main rival, or win that seals the division is definitely rush worthy. The maybes are stuff like playing ECU. In the 90's this was rushworthy, now it is not. You wouldn't rush over a standard Duke/Wake/BC win but you could potentially rush if we beat Maryland in a showdown. Also, if it's a Thursday night nationally televised game then rushing is allowed in almost all circumstances. That's just standard like flipping the fan on before you blow up your girlfriend's roomate's bathroom because your girlfriend is still getting ready in hers. For the record, I've never rushed. I think it was already banned by the time I got to school but I'm not really sure because we never really beat anyone good and when we do I usually happen to not be there somehow because i've been burned out by all the crappy games over the years.

I lol'dSo wasn't there a GT game in like 2000 where we rushed, pulled down the post and (I heard) carried the post to Waffle House?
10/8/2012 7:56:25 PM
I don't think there was enough time with the win in hand for us to plan a good rush. Then again, nobody rushed for clemson and that game was over by halftime. We just don't rush ever.
