CBS news on MTV had a multi-view compilation of the 2nd plane attack. Some of those angles are just scary looking.

i just talked to my mom and her best friend's daughter and bf were at his apt this morning, a block or so from the bldg, getting ready to go to work IN the bldg when it happened.... they saw a head fly by the window and other misc body parts, and thought the world was ending... they were very very fortunate to not have gone to work yet. they are ok, physically speaking.

did you see the streets after the building collapsed? the streets were covered with office documents, which would usually be in file cabinets. think about what happened to the peoples' bodies

Ok,

If they start focusing their tactics against military states, the Texas, Cali, and us are screwed.
And why won't we(NCSU) be a target? There are a large group of colleges around this area. We are the math and science. Why not kill the future engineers while we are attacking NC

CBS News just had a very interesting animation of the path each plane took. I hope they show that some more. You can see how each plane takes sharp U-turns back towards NYC.

way back to crazyb's post...

i dont know how it happened either.. but i do know this.. it wasn't the pilot steering those planes. or if it was, he was fucked up in the head.

why?
either way he was going to lose his life. if he had a damn gun stuck to his head, he was gonna die if he didnt do it. he was going to if he did. he's fucked up if he chose to fly into that building instead of fly into some field somewhere or the ocean.

the pilots were killed. the terrorists in each plane (using knives) killed them. most hijackings end up in going to another city, sometimes with drugs, and eventually the hijackers give up. nobody on the plane expected them to run it into the WTC or Pentagon. the terrorists were trained to fly those planes...some people were able to call on cell phones before either being killed or before the planes went down.

shit. 200+ firefighters presumed dead, 400+ missing, 78+ police members missing.

also, Islamic Jihad and Hamas have denied responsibility, but then blamed US policy... one of bin ladin's groups also denied having anything to do with it.

they're saying only 266 people were aboard the 4 planes that crashed...that seems wrong. a 767 alone can carry over 300 people...

not really, flights are running at low volume right now. I usually catch a Delta flight 767 back to RDU from ATL with only about 30-50 people on it. It all depends on how many ppl are flying that day, but the flight will always try to leave on time.

They have to have the actual plane at the next airport to catch another flight that may have more ppl booked on it, so it's a way of transporting the planes and making money at the same time.

A friend told me he was watching a news station that was interviewing people in NYC and they had a Vietnam Veteran on. The Vet was describing what it looked like when the second WTC tower went down. He said "After the smoke and dust settled, all I could see was Lady Liberty."

I hope everyone realizes what really happened today, in larger terms. Our ivory tower is only so high, and it has been scaled.

Let's assume--and not without merit--that the perpetrators of this act were from the middle east. Then consider their primary motivations.

On one hand, we irresponsibly support Israel. We give the nation billions of dollars in unsupervised funding. They use this money to bulldoze the houses of Palestinians and breed further resentment beyond the existing zealotism.

On the other hand, the Arabs refuse to absorb the Palestinian refugees into Israel's neighboring countries, and instead perpetuate a war with Israel that they cannot win. Demagogues win power by stirring moral support among the Palestinians with ages-old religious superstition and "tradition" arguments.

Neither side is right. Israel, beyond being a religious pariah to the Muslims, has hopelessly neglected the human rights of the Palestinians. The Palestinians are fueled by too much unrealistic zealotism and hatred to ever stop fighting.

Our mistake was choosing a side. Now, because of this act, we are between a rock and a hard place.

If we continue to support Israel, then we face more terrorism as the conflict escalates. The aggression we will show in tracking down the WTC bombers will only exaggerate these problems.

If we support Israel less, then we will essentially be giving in to the demands of those who bombed us. Then we will face more terrorism, because terrorism will be seen as a useful tool of "diplomacy."

When my friend from Israel IMed me after this event, he had only this to say:

"I'm used to this."

Welcome to the rest of the world, folks. Irrational, pointless conflicts that cost lots of lives are fought every day. And if you think tracking these people down and punishing them will deter terrorism, think again--this was a suicide mission. These people care not about their lives, only their "cause."

We entered into a conflict that was based on cowardly zealotism, and now we are reaping what we've sown.

Smoker, that is uncalled for. Those acts are horrific, and there is no justification. I do not think the violence in Israel is appropriate, I do not condone our acts in Iraq. Our military targets were not attacked. They were civilians. Mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters. Asians, Whites, Blacks, Arabs, all were working in the buildings that were attacked today. New York City is one of the most heterogenous cities in the world.

Everyone from every country comes to that building, and this attack has taken the lives of people from all over the world. Now is not the time for that kind of attitude Smoker.

I am not justifying their actions. I am stating reality. The reality is that we have made ourselves the targets of an irrational group of zealots, and we will be hard-pressed to remove ourselves from that position.

israel isnt bulldozing homes, they are not "violating human rights" or doing anything to the Palestinians. the Palestinians are attacking israeli citizens and military, and israel is fighting back.

bobfinkus, we've already established that you are an idiot. be quiet.

the "palestinians" hate the israelis because arabs hate israelis and want them extinct. it goes back to ishmael and isaac and no political rhetoric is going to change that. some of the arab countries hate us because we side more with israel, and we dont follow their religious beliefs, thus we are "the great satan".

Posted by me in a few other threads:

These terrorists wanted to strike terror into our hearts and break our spirit, but they have failed. All they've done is awaken a sleeping giant. They've pissed off 250 million+ people and have caused Americans to unite in the face of this tragedy. Divided, we fall, united WE KICK ASS!

gunmen were using those homes. didn't read the whole article? the people there were involved in an attack on civilians earlier. so you are ignoring the fact that the arabs moved into the west bank AFTER israel was an established state, and claimed it was theirs? thats like canadians moving into minnesota and claiming it as thier ancestral land. they also try to keep jews from worshipping on their own holy place. there is nothing holy about jerusalem to the muslims. their holy places are mecca and medina; they just recently started claiming jerusalem to piss off israel.

You're missing the point. The houses were bulldozed, in a legal sense, because the owners were Palestinian and lacked an impossible-to-obtain permit. Furthermore, the entire neighborhood was bulldozed, not just "suspected houses."

If the law weren't biased in this way, I could see that point. But in reality, it's de jure ethnic discrimination, not a security concern. And it furthermore affects many Palestinians who are trying to live peacefully despite their circumstances.

Quote :
"so you are ignoring the fact that the arabs moved into the west bank AFTER israel was an established state, and claimed it was theirs? thats like canadians moving into minnesota and claiming it as thier ancestral land. they also try to keep jews from worshipping on their own holy place. there is nothing holy about jerusalem to the muslims. their holy places are mecca and medina; they just recently started claiming jerusalem to piss off israel."

Correct. The Arabs clearly brought this upon themselves, since they acted like children on a large scale after the settlement of Israel--fighting until all their land was taken was insanity. And continuing to pursue this matter is equally foolish. Regardless, I think Israel has a responsibility to grant Palestinians equal treatment under the law and gradually integrate them instead of continuing their own brand of zealotism. The Arabs will still resist, but bitter hatred and force from both sides are provably not the answer to this situation.

But in any case, the point of my posting here is not to defend or deride either side. I am simply stating a reality: we are involved in an irrational struggle on a large scale, and the hopes of seeing an end to terrorism are dim, even if we track down and kill every one of them. Terrorism is a symptom of a problem, and not the problem itself.
