the fact of the matter is that melanndelyn is either assuming she could never have an emotional connection with a black guy or would never date a black guy even if they had a physical and emotional connection, which crosses the line of having a preference to the pure and discriminatory.

I'm not ragging her for her choice, but people would be better off if they were honest with themselves about their own biases and discrimination. I've boinked an oinker or two in my day but never would have dated them because of their weight. in this regard i'm no better a person than melanndelyn and she is no worse.

First off, let me just say that I'm in a serious relationship with a black man.

I'm from a southern family where dating a black man would be a stigma. And it was, at first. But what you obviously don't realize is that people can and often do change. If you want something badly enough you'd be willing to go through whatever it takes to get it, so don't pretend that the reason you wouldn't date a black man is the stigma. That's your excuse. The reason is you're in some way biased against black people. And the whole mess about black women bitching... yeah some of them bitch. But not all of them do, so by saying that you're abusing a stereotype (Lesson 1 on How to Be a Racist). And yes, there is a lot of racism against white people from other ethnicities, but don't stand there and act like you're not racist yourself. In other words, stop calling the kettle black, pot.

i don't think anyone meant to put words in your mouth but were rather making an effort to understand the particular complexities of your position.

i find it interesting that the major factor you presented was that your family would have an issue with interracial dating. this sounds as if you are willing to forgo certain experiences merely because your family holds a certain point of view that may be justifiable or not.

And yeah, there are people I would have sex with but wouldn't date, but it never has anything to do with their physical appearance.
