I am Catholic, but just b/c you are not doesn't mean you can partake. Its basically your time to free yourself from your worldly desires to focus on your soul in preparation for Easter and the resurrection of Jesus.

I would have given up alcohol. but i don't drink enough so that would be pointless.

I had steak tonight. lol. this year will be harder than last I have a feeling.

I gave it up last year and it was hard but easier b/c there were lots of good seafood markets all around and the fish was cheaper in CA then it is here. That's my main concern.

I gave up soda back in November. After about 2 weeks, I didn't even miss it. Those 2 weeks were a bitch, I won't lie. But then my body got used to no caffeine and now I'm glad I did it. To get you through those first few weeks, try getting a latte at Starbucks in the morning, and drinking tea in the afternoon. It'll help.

If I had time to go to Starbucks in the morning, I probably wouldn't need any caffeine.

I gotta admit, I shouldn't be going to Starbucks in the morning. It's $3.77 for each Skinny Latte, and I get one probably 3 mornings a week.

Most of the people I knew in high school who did Lent were completely superficial about it. "HAY GUYZ I'M GONNA GIVE UP COFFEE EVEN THOUGH I NEVER DRINK LOLOLOL!"

On the other end of the spectrum was my great-grandparents who only ate bread and drank water during Lent

There will never be anything more original than people saying, "I gave up God/Christianity for Lent LOL!"

It seriously will never happen.

So I gave up ice cream for Lent, right?

Last night was my belated birthday dinner at Outback with my folks and my inlaws (since I was sick last week and cancelled the dinner). They had the waiters/waitresses come out and sing to me - no big deal - but they brought me a huge bowl of ice cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream on it.

So I asked for 8 spoons and everyone passed the bowl around and ate my dessert - and I didn't take one bite! Yay for will power!

If I give up anything at any time of the year it would be for my own good, not to please some imaginary guy in the sky.

Quote :
"I'm doing monthly resolutions: February is giving up sweets, and March might be giving up Starbucks. But really has nothing to do with lent "

that is an interesting idea.
