Question: I have a couple of contacts saved as shortcuts on my homescreen for direct messaging/direct dialing so I can text/call them easier. Now when I want to text these contacts, it brings up my google voice texting rather than the regular texting. I haven't altered any settings. Where do I go to fix this? 8/4/2012 8:37:14 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148329 Posts user info edit post |
^from home screen: Settings, Applications, Manage Applications
scroll to down Google Voice, select and and click Clear Defaults
the next time you try to send a text, it should ask you if you want to use Text Messaging or Google Voice. Before selecting Text Messaging, click the checkbox to set that as default 8/4/2012 8:53:01 PM |

Has anyone played around with one of these?
I would really like two devices..but adding another phone on to my plan is $40, mobile hot spot is $free.
Seems like a very cost effective solution to my problem. 8/10/2012 11:44:16 AM |

Just in case you might want flash and don't already have it installed.
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/08/14/reminder-new-installs-of-adobe-flash-to-be-blocked-starting-tomorrow/
Quote : | "Tomorrow is the day that Adobe marked as the beginning of the end for Flash on Android. Starting tomorrow, updates of Flash from Google Play will be limited to those who already have it installed on their device. Meaning, no fresh installs – only updates. Development of mobile Flash for Android was killed off in November, but the software has seen updates from time to time for security fixes.
As mentioned plenty of times previously, the newest version of Android is unsupported by Flash, so many users out there basically have no use for the application. If you’re running a device that does allow for the install of Flash, you may want to install it today before it’s gone for good." |

^ yeah...i've been running the spjester liquid release (no 4G, but working 3G data) since monday...saw that yesterday, but bamf's servers were slammed yesterday so i just skipped it and i'm downloading it now
the liquid release is slick...ICS seems to run very well on the tbolt, more smoothly than GB than the liquid desensed AOSP build i've been running 8/22/2012 7:10:37 AM |
quagmire02 All American 44225 Posts user info edit post |
went back to my liquid nonsense GB build today (not that anyone cares, as i'm probably the only thunderbolt user in this thread )
the ICS leak was nice...it's faster, surely, but it absolutely destroys the battery...going from ~36 hours of battery (with moderate usage) to watching the battery meter tick down (even on 3G/wifi) was just too much
also, it seems a bit flaky in a couple of other ways...figured i'd give the modders time to come up with a great AOSP build and then go back 8/24/2012 11:04:28 AM |

i can't imagine NOT rooting an android phone, for a number of reasons
in the thunderbolt's case, i think it's unlocking the potential and fixing problems with the stock ROM and subsequent settings
for example, my thunderbolt gets 24-36 hours of life (depending on how much i use, whether it's 3G/4G, etc) using the regular battery, an AOSP ROM, and imoseyon's leankernel...that's overclocked to 1.4ghz, too (with a minimum of 368mhz because 245mhz was giving me lag issues)

i agree...sense sucks a lot less than something like blur, but i'd much rather put what *i* want on there...something that is undoubtedly leaner, faster, and less of a resource hog

I meant that Google was only selling the GSM version on the Play store. The toro (VZW) and toroplus (Sprint) seem to be redheaded stepchildren and I have to wait substantially longer for my updates because the carriers can lock down drivers and sources and shit. i was able to play with a Galaxy S3 and I think the Droid Razr Maxx is a better ICS device.
S-Voice seems to literally be a rebranding of Google's Voice thing, I can't see anything it does really differently.
I would miss the "search" button of the Droids, and the UI didn't really seem as "fluid" as ICS on the Maxx.
And i'm not sure what Samsung was thinking with the hardware home button, other than trying to ripoff the iPhone? It didn't add much to the experience, and was slightly out of place as someone used to the traditional "button" styles for android. 8/27/2012 4:25:42 PM |

Also not a fan of ICS. Since the install my phone: - Is slow to unlock. I'll plug in my password and the phone just seems to freeze for about 3-4 seconds before any of the buttons become responsive again. - The option to enable USB storage when connected to my computer seems to be gone. Sometimes it is recognized as a mass storage device and sometimes it isn't when I plug it in to the USB port. - I missed three hours of work yesterday because it broke my tethering functionality. Turned out that the "Enable USB debugging" option was switched off during the upgrade, but it took me forever to realize that was the issue. I initially started troubleshooting it as a driver issue, but the lack of internet connectivity on the PC and the aforementioned issue of getting the PC to recognize the phone as a storage device caused a lot of difficulties in troubleshooting. 8/28/2012 9:19:43 AM |

The touchscreen on my Atrix 4G developed a deadspot right in the center.
Being so far away from an upgrade I caved in and bought the GSM Galaxy Nexus directly from Google. It got here in exactly 2 days, just in time to take it with me on a trip to DC this past weekend.
I can't imagine using anything besides JellyBean now. Such a fucking fantastic device. I mean you've got WiFi hotspot tethering available in the Settings menu right out of the box... Loved being able to tether my Nexus 7 to the GNex and watch the NCSU v Tennessee game during the drive up. I'm never buying a carrier-flavored phone ever again.
