^My unpopular opinion is that it is a pretty good looking campus.

While at State I got so tired of brick. So tired. The thing I never really liked about State's architecture is that they never stuck with a theme. The buildings were always built with modern designs, which leaves clusters of dated buildings 30 years down the road.

Maybe that's the way a lot of campuses are though, I don't know.

Thanksgiving is my absolute least favorite holiday. I don't like football, I'm not a foodie, and I'm not close to my family. My best Thanksgivings have been spent alone where I was thankful for solitude, good whisky, and books. But alas, everyone insists that I "not be alone" on Thanksgiving when that is precisely what I desperately want.

While there are plenty of people that join the armed services for love of country, a desire to serve, because of family tradition, etc ... Many join the military because it is a federal jobs program. These people are literally doing nothing else with their life and need to find a way to get paid even though they have no desirable skills. After leaving the military I do believe that people should be able to use their military experience in the job market, but I don't necessarily think that having served in the military should give you preferential treatment over other job applicants, nor do I believe previous military experience should place you in any job in the private sector.

Starwars, as a franchise, has always been meh. I've watched the movies because of the sunken ship fallacy, and I wanted a sense of completeness. But rarely am I truly entertained.

No one, except for guitarists, really likes guitar solos.

Totally agree with the military comment.

I've seen both good and bad employees who emerged from the military with skills applicable to my industry. I don't think the percentage of good employees coming from the military is any higher than the average population.

A New Hope is a joke if you watch it right after Andor and Rogue One. Almost like a parody of what came before it (in the timeline).

Women historically haven’t actually been oppressed. Men around the world and throughout history coddled and infantilized women, and this probably was mostly beneficial and protective in an agrarian and developing societies, but results in systemic biases and disparate outcomes as societies become more developed and organized— but the original intent was to protect women.

For comparison, African Americans in America were genuinely oppressed, the intent of Jim Crow era laws was to harm and suppress the freed people and their descendants.

So the Beatles were wrong about that

Eh, I think that women were oppressed as well in this country, though not to the degree that other groups of minorities were. And while the motivation for this oppression may have originally come from a desire to protect the delicate flower of woman hood, that motivation clearly morphed into a desire to exert political power in order to protect a patriarchal society. I would argue that the origin of slavery probably stemmed from in-group/out-group dynamics, greed, and a desire to exploit labor; but eventually morphed into a system of racism.

Historically though? Nah, I don't think that women were historically oppressed. I think much of that depends on which culture you're examining. There were / are several societies in central and eastern africa, for example, that feature women as the matriarchs. In these societies, women enjoyed wide political influence, ownership and inheritance rights, and household leadership responsibilities.<--
