the root of the problem. i thought the purpose of airport security was to prevent weapons, etc... from getting on board. WTF???

You don't need weapons to hijack a plane dammit! 5 guys bumrushing the cockpit and beating the shit out of the pilot and copilot will work too.

did they actually stop anybody from hijacking a plane today? It seems like at least one of the attempts would not have been successful.

whats amazing is that with all the security they have in airports, you would think you were safe.....but whoever did this, must have planned this in great detail

the pilots must have been killed before the crash because even with a gun to the head i would never steer my plane into a building

I think DaBird is right, they must have hijacked the planes using their own pilots.

^^^

with enough money, you can buy equipment that gets you through security gates... and they targeted morning flights, when more airport traffic is moving through those gates...

yes clearly the terrorists flew the planes.. what I'm wondering is.. dont airports stay in constant communication with planes during the flight??? meaning, when the airport checked in on the plane did the hijacker just pretend to be the real pilot and get away with it?? or hold a gun to the pilots head to get him to make things appear normal?? or maybe they knew the plane was hijaked.. and just couldnt stop them in time.. or didnt expect them to do something as drastic as kamikazeing into buildings

getting on a plane is the easy thing ever... you say yes and no to 2 ?'s show your id, and your on. getting guns in would be much harder, but feasible nonetheless. obviously.

i think that they knew the plane was hijacked...i think... and they couldn't really do anything about it...i mean...what're ya gonna do..shoot it down?...they couldn't have known that it was gonna do what it did

yeah, that's what i'm thinking.. they wont.. or shouldnt.. be hesitant to shoot down currently hijacked planes.. which pretty much sucks for passengers(understament of the year).. this is so terrible..

why didn't our military shoot down those planes when they proved to be on a collision course with such targets? I can understand that they couldn't have responded in time to save maybe even both the WTC buildings, but the Pentagon? We need to get our shit together.

this whole thing seems to have taken place in a mere hour...it was THAT well coordinated. The military probably only had about 10 min to respond...we can't blame anyone for not shooting down a plane. Besides, I don't know how many people could fire on a passenger plane...it'd be a hard call...

agreed.. this was a very well conceived and executed attack.. think about it.. they used our own planes against us.. as opposed to attempting to bomb or nuke us, which we're paranoid about, so we prolly would have stopped it.. they flew under our radar so to speak

Our thoughts of invulnerability are our weakness. Reminds me of the Titanic. They thought that was unsinkable.......
