In leftist parlance "private property" typically refers to manufacturing implements, factories, and otherwise "the means of production" whereas "personal property" refers to non-productive effects like houses, cars, appliances, etc

ha you keep coming back for more.

i want to see you try to defend this one too: "We don't need money to establish a good living"

and this one: what would you do to fix the us economy: 'more quality, no sexism, and the um, workforce, the jobs and stuff. definitely more equal rights"

so to fix the economy you'd get rid of sexism and have more equal rights. yeh great plan. let's just oust males and certain races, well.. just because...... it'll create more jobs that way.

Quote :
"If the spending you reduce is highly stimulative (such as food stamps) you risk reducing GDP growth, which might reduce tax revenue to the point that the deficit is larger than if you hadn't cut the spending to begin with. In other words, reducing spending can actually *increase* the deficit given certain economic conditions (*cough* a recession). "

This sounds suspiciously like the argument that tax cuts can actually increase revenues, only in reverse. It's a stupid argument.

I think it relies upon the concept that the poor spend, whereas the wealthy save.

obviously there are more dumb/uninformed people than not, but...

Quote :
"We don't need money to establish a good living"

...is actually true. money is just a silly abstraction that our chimp brains have clung to for awhile. i'm not suggesting that people are ready to move beyond it, but its not insane to think that sometime in the future they will be.

you know how little kids like to pretend, be it playing house, or having a tea party, or running around in the woods having some imagined war? well, it seems to me, that that's what "adult" society does as well, just on a much larger scale. money, national boundaries, authority - these are all just tacit agreements between certain people, that general populations have passively accepted for however long. i don't know what, if anything, is to come directly from the Occupy Movement, but i like to think that its another step in the direction toward people's vision growing clearer and seeing that "mommy" isn't your Mommy, there's no tea in the cups, and that your only hurling dirt clods at phantoms, not protecting a majestic kingdom.

The commanding heights of the economy. I guess everyone should overlook the people working out of their homes or living out of their work. In today's economy, a personal computer such as an iPad can be quite productive. Which begs the question yet again why he would share his "means of production" iPad.

^^ i mean i may not agree with you word for word. but it does make one sit back and reflect about those 'powers' that be in the world.

I, (like you) fight corruption in high places. This includes, the office of the president or dictator or tyrant leading any nation that holds it's people bound to serve him and his wishes and not the will of the people he is to serve.

If I could 'play god' for a day and you out with your little dream.... I would probably immediately assassinate 10-20 ruthless dictators ranging from north koreas kim jong, belarus' and the last soviet era ruthless dictator alexandre lukashenko, the president of syria, the imam and president of iran, and many other dictators on the african continent openly holding back the basic necessities and freedoms of life that allow one to simply survive.

I don't understand that video? Is the mace supposed to subdue them or something so they won't put up a fight while they are being zip tied? It didn't seem like those kids needing spraying before being cuffed and walked out.

Seeing that just gives me an uneasy feeling about where this ship called the USA is pointed.

Apparently the kids were protesting with some kind of sit-in on campus. The Chancellor, who is a moron, expressly forbids any kind of protest like that on campus grounds. She calls the cops and tells them to remove the protesters. Cops do what they do.

haha.. College kids protest on college campuses all the goddamn time. Stupid move on the chancellor's part. I sent that video to my brother, who is a UC Davis Grad. Obviously, he's upset about that.

Question, aren't all cops who are certified to use tasers supposed to be tased as a part of their training process? Maybe pepper spray training should require the same process?

At least they didn't tear gas them...?

They used to drop tear gas at UMass Amhest about five to six times a year to quell riots, usually involved around the Red Sox winning the World Series, Yankees winning the World Series, the power going out and the giant dorm room furniture BBQ's they'd do.

You say you want a revolution. Well, you know, we all want to change the world.
You tell me that it's evolution. Well, you know ,we all want to change the world.
But when you talk about destruction don't you know that you can count me out.
Don't you know it's gonna be all right.

You say you got a real solution. Well, you know, we'd all love to see the plan.
You ask me for a contribution. Well, you know, we're doing what we can.
But when you want money for people with minds that hate, all I can tell is brother you have to wait.

Don't you know it's gonna be all right.

You say you'll change the constitution. Well, you know, we all want to change your head.
You tell me it's the institution. Well, you know, you better free you mind instead.
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao, you ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow.

Don't you know it's gonna be all right.

Lmao I remember telling conservatives during the Bush years that they wouldn't like the increasingly militarized police during the next Democratic administration.

Little did I know they would just continue to be used on the left exclusively, lol. Oh by the way reminder that Obama is a stealth Socialist revolutionary, that's why the Dept. of Justice is mum on blatant police brutality here.

I'm not going to defend every quote that comes out of some man on the street at an OWS protest, anymore than I'd demand you defend every racist redneck fuckhead that liberal bloggers manage to hunt down and interview on the fringes of Tea Party rallies.

I just wanted to make sure you understood what was meant by private vs. personal property, since you two were talking about it and most right wingers typically have no idea what that distinction is about and so it seems absurd to them.

That pretty much matches my sentiments exactly. When we allow police to punish people for not following their orders we cut out the judicial branch's responsibility. Pepper spray and tasers should be used against hostile people only. A person involved in non-violent protest who is neither engaging in nor threatening violence should not be subject to "punishment" at the hands of the police. This was totally unnecessary and only adds fuel to the fire.

They know exactly what they're doing. They'll commit brutality against 50 kids just so that 1 kid will lash out and throw a rock or something, justifying 50 more acts of brutality. Eventually they can escalate things to riots (See Oakland) and those are just plain ugly such that the protestors lose public support regardless of what led up to it.

Aside from employing more police and jailers and more city groundkeepers, what results is OWS getting? The 1% are still 1%, the government is still entangled and beholden to special interests (see SOPA), and the people in charge now are still the same people that were in charge when this whole mess started.

^yeah, but more people are aware of that now.

I know that doesn't sound like a big accomplishment, but the mere act of getting topics such as income inequality, the corrupt American power structure, and corporate-state collusion is a pretty big step in the right direction.

OWS shouldn't have an end-goal that will make everyone happy and go away, it's just a movement. Just like the civil rights movement got Americans to openly talk about race relations, or the Feminist movement got Americans to openly talk about sexism and gender inequality, the OWS movement is just supposed to bring these topics to the surface.

hell yeah.

instead of conversation being dominated by topics like the Kardashians, or football, or small town gossip, this Thanksgiving, I'm sure my family is going to be talking a lot more about these actually important issues. the public has to develop a will before it can force the government to carry it out, and that's what the Occupy Movement has helped initiate.

you're right. that mentality will surely be a feature of any conversation with my family. but I think your cynicism is unfortunate. I have no expectations for my relatives to think as I do, or to be as informed/questioning as I am. still, I do trust in their ability to listen and discuss things, provided they are approached in a respectful manner. I don't think my family is alone in being able to do this. and I don't think its foolish to appreciate this opportunity to have a dialogue on a host of issues that are largely ignored.

after reading more about it, the cops should be left alone. the initial videos are disgusting, but when you look at what actually happened, you see that the protestors had an illegal protest. they set up tents, something that is NOT protected by the Constitution. Once again, the OWS idiots don't understand basic ideas and the law. You can't pitch a tent wherever you damned well feel like it.

the cops showed up and told them to remove their tents from public property. The occupy dumbasses pitched a temper tantrum and sat down. game on. propaganda is propaganda, though. gotta give it to the occupy dumbasses, they are good at manipulating facts

no, but they do get to arrest you and then let the courts decide. which is what these guys were doing. They looked around and saw tents. Do we need a court to say "yep, those are tents!" before the people can be arrested? The po-po then said "hey, get those tents out of here," to which the idiot protestors sat down and refused to move. Do we need a court to say "yep, they sat down and refused to move" before the police can arrest them for refusing to remove their tents?

Had the po-po not pepper sprayed the morons, the morons would have resisted more fiercely, giving even better camera footage to those who would willfully ignore filming the events that led up to the confrontation. Like I said, the occupy dumbasses know how to manipulate the situation and are doing a damned good job of it. The police were damned if the do, damned if they don't. That a worthless scumbag occupy dumbass who doesn't understand you can't put a tent wherever you damn well please got pepper-sprayed really doesn't bother me one bit.

The tents were already removed before they were peppered. So, the cops already did what they were asked to do. And they could have just as easily cuffed them and removed them without spraying them. It was a power move. Nothing more. Copper wanted an opportunity to flex nuts, so that's what he did. Hopefully, it'll cost him his job. If he can't be trusted to clear people sitting on a fucking sidewalk in a public quad at a public university where the students pay tuition, then he really doesn't need to be carrying a badge.

It's funny how big, overreaching government isn't a problem for those on the far right as long as it's the police-state crackin' skulls of young liberal hippies.
