Inspired by a CB convoThis was actually my second phone, but I can't remember the model number of my first. Either way, this was circa 1998:I introduce to you.....THE QUALCOMM QCP-2700! It was pretty sweet because it had a toggle wheel on the side for toggling through the menu (first of it's kind). And I still swear it got the best signal of any phone I have ever owned.

OMG, I remember that phone from when I worked at Sprint! It was the upgraded version of that piece of shit Samsung where the flip broke 98% of the timeFYI, my phone was was single mode, so it only worked on the Sprint Network. They later came out with this "slim" version that had the ability to roam......BADASS!:[Edited on July 20, 2011 at 7:15 PM. Reason : a]

^^ I was looking for it too. I thought it was the Samsung 2400, but I can't find a picture of it. I remember we would have customers who would get like 6 of those before we would finally swap them to the N200
7/20/2011 7:16:51 PM

7/20/2011 7:18:58 PM
Yeah, I played a fuckton of snake with that phone taking dumps in the Tucker bathroom freshman year
7/20/2011 7:18:59 PM
aww yea the nokia 5165:i was so jealous of my friends that had phones that could vibratei had to watch for it to light up when i was in a movie
7/20/2011 7:19:07 PM
I carried this thing for a good four years until freshman or sophmore year of college where I finally retired it. The thing was indestructible. I could throw it off the roof of the fraternity house and it would never break.
7/20/2011 7:19:35 PM
^ agreed, those phones were beastI think just about everyone over the age of 28 had that Nokia at some point in their lives.AND OH SNAP! DB19 BROKE OUT THE STARTAC![Edited on July 20, 2011 at 7:21 PM. Reason : a]

7/20/2011 7:25:52 PM
I think I actually had to memorize phone numbers still
7/20/2011 7:29:03 PM
That's it, I am calling Sprint and asking them if I can downgrade to the 2700no need for the $10 extra a month for unlimited data
7/20/2011 7:30:38 PM
^^ 90% of the phone numbers i have memorized now i had memorized before i had a cell phone ]

Motorola bag phone, similar to this. I think I had 20 minutes per month or something like that, haha. I don't recall the exact #, but it was only for use in a pinch or emergency.I then got another Motorola phone similar to this:
7/20/2011 7:44:56 PM
7/20/2011 7:46:30 PM
The first phone that I had use of wasn't so much mine as it was my car's. Never left the glovebox except in case of emergency or to tell the parents where I was, as we had a plan with something like 30 minutes per month, total. LOL. This was in late '96. Don't remember the model of the phone, but it was a big old motorola, identical or nearly so to the one on the left here:First one that was actually *mine* and that I used for more than emergencies was a Samsung SCH-3500 (the predecessor to the N200 that LunaK posted). Got it in March 2000. Curiously the hinge didn't break on mine--the reception just got worse and worse until I got fed up. Had it for 2 or 3 years though.[Edited on July 20, 2011 at 8:06 PM. 7/20/2011 8:05:03 PM
^ YES, IT WAS THE 3500That motherfucker was a piece of shit. I worked customer service at the Sprint Store on Glenwood for 2 years, and I would deal with like 30 of those a day.

Got it from dad when I turned 16 and started driving in 98. Folks wanted to make sure I would be okay driving around and stuff. Definitely came in handy when the transmission died on me a year later.[Edited on July 20, 2011 at 8:34 PM. Reason : I'm old]

7/20/2011 8:37:05 PM
I used to carry the house cordless phone as far into the backyard as I could and use the paging function to talk to my friend sitting by the receiver near the kitchen. To me, this was basically using a cell phone for the very first time.I was 8, and it counts.
7/20/2011 8:38:17 PM
my droidX has been pissing me off .. the 3G goes out randomly w/o notice (unless im looking at it) and will not come back unless i rebootwish they would mail me an early upgrade offer like last year when the Bionic comes out
7/20/2011 8:39:34 PM
mine will lose data every now and then, but i put it in airplane mode and then back to normal and it comes back
