Just activated my LG G3. Great phone. The font rendering is weird though and the screen doesn't pop as much as my Galaxy Note II. I guess I'll miss the OLED screen. Guess I have 15 days to decide.

You'll love it, although if you do a lot of heavy gaming, prepare to be disappointed by the battery life. Browsing the web and looking at other static content is fine, but anything that pushes the screens refresh rate to the max kills the battery. For me, since I never gamed much, the battery life is the best I've experienced on a smart phone.

Yeah I don't game too much. First full day with it. Draining rather fast. Probably from me using it. I've yet to see the crazy stand by time everyone is talking about (other than it only drained 1% over night in airplane mode). I need a few hours of non screen on time to see it I guess.

Anyone want a AT&T Galaxy Note 2 with 2 spare batteries, case, and screen protector? Great condition. Going on CL/Ebay for $200-250. Looking for $200. Probably stick it on CL later today.

Yeah it's an amazing phone. I'm still deciding on whether to keep the LG G3. The screen is still better on my Note 2. The LG G3 still is just flat and fuzzy (due to some weird font rendering). I guess I'm just used to the OLED exaggerated colors of the Samsung phones.

I also sat for 10 minutes with both phones and opened probably 12-15 apps at the same time and with maybe 1-2 exceptions the performance was almost identical on the Note 2 as the LG G3 as far as open speed, transitions, etc.

Makes me almost tempted to to return the G3 and get the Note 4 next month...

Grr still torn. Watching videos side by side the colors on the LG G3 are just horrid. They're really flat. I know the OLED screen on the Note 2 is over saturated but the G3 screen just looks bad. I'll give it another week. I may be just waiting on the Note 4.

It's not just that. The colors and contrast aren't that area on the G3:

http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/smartphones/lg-g3-att

Quote :
"Unfortunately, the G3's display is the dimmest of any flagship smartphone. At just 289 nits, the G3's screen is well below the smartphone category average of 355 nits, not to mention the Galaxy S5's 373 nits and the HTC One M8's 402 nits. Not only does the G3's dim display impact overall image quality, but it makes it much harder to see in direct sunlight than the S5 or One M8.

In addition to being too dim, the G3's color reproduction also fell short of the competition. The G3 displayed 93.4 percent of the color spectrum using our colorimeter. The HTC One M8 showed 115 percent, while Samsung's Galaxy S5 offered 158 percent.

What's more, the G3's color accuracy was lower than the One M8 and S5, with the LG registering a Delta-E rating of 5.5 (0 is perfect). That's worse than the One M8's 4.1 and not even close to the S5's 0.9.

LG G3 (AT&T)Taking all of this into account, the G3's screen didn't stand a chance against the S5's or One M8's. While watching a trailer for "The Guardians of the Galaxy," colors were far more muted than those on the S5 or M8. Worse still, viewing angles on the G3 were poor, causing images to wash out when we tilted the device."

Still liking the phone though.

So I've got like 5 GB of pictures to transfer from the old phone to the new one. What's the best app for that?

Dropbox photo sync automatically uploads all my photos so I never have to worry about it.

Or just plug both phones into a computer and transfer them.

Are you even backing them up somewhere?

Don't transfer them to the phone, transfer them to an online cloud service instead. Apps on your new phone will still be able to use them, they will download them as needed.

Considering a lot of phones you can stick a 64-128GB card in them putting 5GB of photos on one and sticking it in a new phone isn't a huge deal.

Considering almost all of the flagship phones (LG G3, S5, GN3/4) come with microSD slots it makes sense.

Sure I'll quadruple my storage for $35-40 for the price of a 64GB. Anyone who argues AGAINST that ability it just idiotic.

Storing your photos anywhere on your device (SD or internal storage) is the best way to lose them.

No one said storing them ONLY on your device. Storing them on your device AND having cloud backup is the best solution. I can't view photos on a plane without wifi or camping for example. Plus pulling up photos over the cloud is slower and it's harder to scroll through them.

It's much easier to copy my old phones from my old phone to my new phone. Space isn't an issue and it allows me to look through them quickly while still maintaining a copy on the cloud.

Does anyone have one of those external battery chargers? I picked up a Mophie XL because it was on sale and I had like $40 of credit at Bestbuy. Mainly for my tablet as I can't swap out the battery. Probably use it for the phone and bluetooth as well when the spare is dead.

Cool saw that one too. If I didn't have the credit and didn't need it tomorrow I probably would have ordered one off Amazon. Charges my tablet (Tab Pro 8.4") at about 3% / 5 min which isn't bad. Have yet to test it on my phone.

Why carry all that extra weight?

Make your own lightweight, solar-powered, backpacking charger for a few bucks

That's a really stupid idea. A 3000mAh spare battery weights what? A few ounces? A solar charger is slow and unreliable. Sure if you're sitting out in an open field with sunlight on it it might work half the time. Not to mention it's much larger than a battery that's barely larger than a few business cards stacked on top of each other.

Yeah, a 3,000 mah battery will be ~4-6 oz.

This solar panel + 1,000 mah battery can be ~3.8 oz if you remove the protective cover:
http://www.gofastandlight.com/Ultralight-Portable-Solar-Charger-Panel-and-Power-Module/productinfo/PO-R80005/

Or this one has a 2,200 mah battery and only ~3.1 oz with no modification needed:
http://www.rei.com/product/852557/bushnell-solarwrap-mini-100-solar-power-charger

So why would you take a standard battery that requires you plug it in?

At this point I think you're just trolling.

You're seriously trying to make the argument to take a solar charger that takes how long to charge a phone? Over a spare battery which is barely the size of a few business cards that's maybe 1-2 ounces heavier? Do you know how much an ounce is?

Swapping out a battery takes 10-15 seconds. I don't think the benefit of saving 1-2 ounces is worth the hours of charging and finding sunlight it takes to charge a phone with a portable solar panel.

And who said anything about plugging it in? I take two full batteries on trips that are 4-5 days. Usually one battery in a modern phone is fine for 2-3 day trips.

How often do you actually backpack?

This is the one I'd get,

http://www.amazon.com/Intocircuit-11200mAh-Portable-Smartphones-USB-charged/dp/B00BB5GR0A

3-4 full charges, compact, multiple ports, relatively cheap. I personally have no use for such a device, but it looks like the best in class to me.

Also for the record i have never been a proponent of physical keyboards. Micro SD cards were my other required feature because storage is so cheap these days.

lol, that widget actually appears correctly

that's the stock Droid Maxx widget (not sure if it's on other Motorola phones). But I tried probably 8 or 10 other weather widgets but that one was the best I found for me. The time and date are big and visible, the weather isn't the most detailed but it tells the pertinents, and if you swipe on the settings link, it shows battery life

damn fonts though

Meh nothing too surprising on the Galaxy Note 4. Think I'll be happy with the LG G3. Never used the pen on my Note II anyway.

If anyone wants a Note 2 with case, screen protector, and 2 spare batteries + charger I'd be willing to part with it for $200.
