Absolutely, it's perfectly clear what their strategy in the West Bank is. We will go from a few spots on a map vying for sovereign autonomy to a few million more Muslims living in Israel.

The same can't be said for Gaza Strip. The land is regressing in terms of any human development factors, and nothing could run more counter to the interests of Israel. It's virtually a terrorism incubator. Maybe they think that they can just go occupy it if things get bad enough, but I don't think this is realistic.

"Washington (CNN) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called on Israel to reconsider plans to build thousands of homes in its occupied territory, saying it will set back efforts to bring about a two-state solution between the Israelis and Palestinians.

Clinton's comments Friday followed news that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized the construction of the new homes, a move widely viewed as retaliatory after the Palestinians won a United Nations bid to recognize their claim to become a "non-member observer state."

"In light of today's announcement, let me reiterate that this administration — like previous administrations — has been very clear with Israel that these activities set back the cause of a negotiated peace," Clinton said in remarks delivered at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy in Washington.

I love how the UN pissed all over Israel (not to mention the prospect of any fruitful negotiations) yet again by declaring "Palestinian statehood." Too bad there is no state of Palestine. it's israel's land, plain and simple, and if they want to give it up, that's fine. But it's Israel's choice, NOT the UN's. i think it's time we pull out of the anti-jew UN and see how well they stand on their own without the US's money and military.

^ So then what the fuck is the Gaza Strip to you? Officially no Israelis live there. If it's their right to give up the land, they've already done it (although not for the West Bank).

I'm more inclined to say it's still a part of Israel than not. No other nation claims it, and Israel still has legitimate claim to it, even if they don't necessarily want it.

Yeah, a lot of shit got re-arranged after WWII. Large portions of the middle east were colonies or protectorates of European countries. Pretty sure it was formed from what was British land, not from Arabs.

Wars shift things around, it belonged to the Ottomans until WWI, then they lost it to the British.

"British land"?

I am pretty sure the Arabs were living in the same homes for 30-40 generations. And they had title deeds to their lands. Just because the Brits took it by force does not make it British land.

You are basically condoning colonialism. If China takes over the US by force and gives much of the land to Chinese families, would that make it OK once, say, 50 years pass? Is it Chinese land 50 years after it was taken by force? Would you then tell the American who left or were evicted to suck it up and never try to get their lands back?

Wars and colonialism have shaped maps for the last 5000 years. This is not new. What is new is the relative stability since WWII.

I'm not saying it's right, I'm just stating a fact. Ask the Sioux how they feel, nobody gives a shit.

There are Muslims who own land in Israel, so this argument about national ownership does seem rather other-worldly to me.

so you want to repeat the same injustices again, thinking that this time it won't be unjust?

^ because someone has claim to it, whether we like that concept or not. At one time, two parties laid claim to it. Later on, one of those parties relinquished claim to it. Now, take that scenario into any court and see who winds up with it... A third party with no actual claim to it? Hell no.

Results of the Israeli election with some explanations of party lines as I understand them. My vote would have probably been for Yesh Atid.

Likkud Beiteinu - 31 seats
This used to be 2 parties, Likud and Yisrael Beiteinu, who collectively earned 42 seats in the last election. This is the most mainstream right wing party and the base for Netenyahu's support. Although this is still the highest number of seats in the Knesset, the significant decrease shows Israel's voters are moving to the center.

Yesh Atid - 19 seats
Centrist group that represents the interests of the middle class, wants to stop spending money on settlement expansion, and is pushing for 2-state solution. This party was formed less than a year ago, so the fact that it has the second highest seats is a huge deal.

Labor Party - 15 seats
Left-of-center, focus on social and economic issues. Wants to set infrastructure as a higher priority then foreign affairs, especially with concerns to minimum wage and education. Wants to prevent war with Iran and create 2-state solution with Palestine.

Shas - 11 seats
Ultra-orthodox foundation. Far right religiously and often sides with Likud, but feels that "saving lives is more important than keeping territory." Very big supporter of social welfare for low-income families.

Jewish Home - 11 seats
Pro-settlements, considered furthest-to-the-right.

United Torah - 7 seats
Coalition of 2 smaller Orthodox parties, focus entirely religious issues with no policy or platform involving the settlements or foreign affairs.

Hatnuah - 6 seats
Formed just a few months ago by former members of Kadima. Strong focus on negotiations with Palestine but not until Hamas "renounces terrorism."

Meretz - 6 seats
Left wing, large focus on social justice, religious freedom, human rights, gay marriage, 2-state solution, and environmental issues. If Likud is Israel's Republicans and Labor Party is their Democrats, then Meretz would be the Green Party.

United Arab List - 5 seats
Exactly what it sounds like. Pro-Palestinian state, represents Israeli Arabs and is very popular among the Bedouin. As far as I'm aware, this is the most seats the party has ever earned (however there have been other Arab parties to come and go, this is just the strongest one currently).

Chadash - 4 seats
A united Jewish and Arab/Islamic front for equal rights and complete Israeli evacuation of settlements in occupied territories. Very committed to social issues such as gender equality, worker's rights, health services, and environmentalism.

Balad - 3 seats
Another Arab party, opposes Israel's status as a "Jewish State," favors Iranian influence in the region.

Kadima - 2 seats
This was Ariel Sharon's power house just a few years ago (29 seats in 2006) but is completely falling apart. This is a centrist group that believes in Israel's right to the whole of the land, but recognizes that concessions must be made in order to obtain peace. Wants modifications to be made to the current Israeli political structure and promotes better health and social security benefits as well as civil marriages and minority equality.

In order to select a Prime Minister, a majority coalition (at least 61 seats) must be formed, and the Prime Minister will usually come from the largest party within that coalition. Only Labor and Likud had ever put a member into the office of PM until 2005 when Ariel Sharon split from Likud to form Kadima. Ehud Olmert, who took over when Sharon had his stroke in 2006, also formed a majority coalition around Kadima.

The previous coalition that selected Netenyahu was: Likud, Yisrael Beiteinu, Independence, Shas, The Jewish Home, and United Torah. Independence did not enter into this election, and the remaining groups will now hold a collective 60 seats.

The "opposition coalition" previously was: Kadima, Labor, National Union (disolved, most members joined Otzma which didn't win any seats), Meretz, Hadash, United Arab List, Balad, and Ta'al (which has now joined with United Arab List). This group will now hold 35 seats.

Yesh Atid and Hatnuah, which were not official parties in previous elections, will determine the coalition if none of the other affiliations change. Hatnuah is likely to oppose Likud, especially because of its ties to Kadima and the fact that leader Tzipi Livni is well known to go against Netenyahu on most issues. Yesh Atid also seems like a natural opponent to Likud, so we very well could be looking at a dead even tie if no group changes affiliation.

LIVING THE AMERICAN DREAM IN THE WEST BANK
HANGING OUT WITH ISRAEL’S ILLEGAL HOMESTEADERS

http://www.vice.com/read/living-the-american-dream-in-the-west-bank-0000345-v20n1

Quote :
"In 2010, 269 Jews moved from America to West Bank settlements, many of which are marketed as “bedroom communities” to families and white-collar professionals in the US. The migration is called “making aliyah,” which translates roughly from the Hebrew as “movin’ on up.” Never mind that it’s a violation of the Geneva Conventions for Israel, as an occupying power, to install civilians in the West Bank, one-fifth of which, according to the Oslo Accords, falls under the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority.

To encourage Jews to illegally settle there, the Israeli government subsidizes home purchases and offers reduced rates for leasing land, in addition to the perks all new Israeli citizens get such as free health care, upward of a 90 percent reduction in property taxes, tuition waivers for earning advanced degrees, and a payment of about $14,000 spending money for a family of five. The first installment is paid on arrival at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport—in cash.

^Old, by about a year I think, but yeah it's disgusting when people say things like that.

But in new news:
Quote :
"Ramallah, West Bank (CNN) -- Israel released 26 Palestinian prisoners early Wednesday, part of an agreement that fueled new peace talks.
The released prisoners were the second of four groups -- roughly 100 prisoners -- expected to be freed in a deal cobbled together by the United States to jump-start stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
The Palestinian Prison Authority confirmed 21 prisoners were released shortly after midnight in the West Bank and another five were released in Gaza.
Families of the prisoners were on hand in the West Bank, where cheers went up as buses carrying the prisoners arrived.
But the prison release has angered some Israelis, who protested outside the West Bank prison where the inmates where held before their release.
Oded Karamani said he sees the release of his brother's killer as a betrayal.
"It makes me feel like I got stabbed in my back, and they turned the knife, and turned the knife," Karamani said.
Ronen Karamani, 18, was abducted in 1990 and stabbed to death near Jerusalem. Two Palestinians were convicted in connection with his murder.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called the decision to free Palestinian prisoners one of the most difficult of his career.
But many Israeli officials, including the defense minister, have said it is part of a long-term security strategy.
Israel released more than two dozen Palestinian prisoners in August on the eve of new peace talks. Some of them had been held for more than 20 years."

Sure, but how come the MSM doesn't report it when Jews/Zionists make genocidal comments against Arabs/Muslims?

When it is the other way around, we never stop hearing about it, even for years (Ahmedinejad?).

So when Muslims/Arabs say that the US media is controlled by Zionists, Americans say that's racist/crazy/conspiracy theory, etc. Not really a conspiracy when it is a reality.

So much for the free press!

no, by MSM i mean cnn, bbc, fox, msnbc, etc.

remember a few years ago when an australian muslim preacher said something like women should cover up when they go outside, otherwise it is like leaving a piece of meat outside where there are flies around? it was on all those networks, for days.

and many other cases where random unknown kooky preachers have said crazy/hateful stuff and then have been all over the msm networks.

but israeli leaders, politicians, (several) rabbis spew hateful and genocidal words, and no one in the US even comes to know.
