his defense now is that he was booked at lots of speaking events and wasn't aware of the politics of this group.\

that defense is BS too because apparently it was a big story in the local press and a lot of people were unhappy with the hotel for hosting the event, a story that occurred before he spoke

Joni Ernst is basically a caricature

I was skimming the GOP response(s) to the SOTU, why do they keep saying criticizing "Washington" for not offering solutions? The GOP is part of Washington, they are members of congress and are able to offer solutions.

How about John Boehner inviting Netanyahu to speak to a joint session of congress without the WH's knowledge or consent? This is a leader of a political party effectively promoting the foreign policy of another nation against that of his own. For how much they talk about Obama being un-american and treasonous, how does this not count as real actual treason?

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/01/the-cias-most-important-overseer-is-abdicating-his-responsibilities/384727/

Quote :
"But as Senator Burr begins this job, he is behaving less like an overseer than a CIA asset. Rather than probe problems at the spy agency, of which there have been many, his first priority has been aiding CIA efforts to cover up past misdeeds. It is hard to imagine a more flagrantly inappropriate act by a head overseer.

Asking More From the Next State of the Union Address
Specifically, Burr is trying to help the CIA to suppress two reports on its torture of prisoners. Like the spy agency, he never wants the full reports to reach the public, and he is misusing his position on the oversight committee to advance that agenda. One report was commissioned by Leon Panetta, a former CIA director. Though it is classified, people who've seen it assert that it paints a scathing portrait of a spy agency that misled its overseers about the efficacy of tactics like waterboarding. No wonder current and former overseers on the intelligence committee, like Senators Ron Wyden and Mark Udall, found great value in reading it."

The White House's 10/10 trolling seems relevant to that comment:

the other networks all had "News" included (ABC News, NBC News, etc...)

I have no idea if the democrats have a history of this, but the GOP definitely has. Didn't Kissinger (maybe someone else in the campaigns, I don't remember the details) go around "negotiating" with foreign sovereigns for Nixon and Reagan before either were actually in office?

Pretty sure the Vietnam peace talks were sabotaged, at least.

So you're saying the WH should stoop to their level? That's mature. Also, Fox news gives the current president just as much as Bush got when he was in the office.

I've given up on GOLO. At this point I think people on the left are just logging in and saying the most absurd things they can trying to pass as right wing nutjobs.

Either way, internet news comments, like youtube comments, will be documented 300 years from now as proof of how we have been slowly devolving as civilized beings.

after 6 years of destroying him on a daily basis? this is a ridiculously subtle move by the White House.

and last I checked, this president wasn't allowed to start two unneeded wars

there is absolutely no comparison between the media during the Bush years and the media during the Obama presidency

I guess it sounds like I'm defending Fox, which I'm not, I just think that this WH is being childish when it comes to them. Fox is definitely right wing, I'm not arguing that. Just don't act like children are running out country. This wasn't the White House Correspondence Dinner. It would've been kinda funny then.

maybe in your bubble they do, but after getting blasted by media critics during the Bush years, the media, as a whole, has reacted by being much harsher and combative with the White House than they have in previous years

they're also pissed that this administration is more skeptical of them than previous administrations and doesn't allow as much access

Do you actually watch or read any non-right-wing media? Or do you just get that opinion because of how right-wing-media descries the "lamestream media"? Because they certainly don't "lick the shit off his bootheels" in many instances. Especially in his second term.

And I assure you that many of the goloers are bat-shit crazy right-wingers. It's always been like that.

Fox got people to buy into "unskewed polling" when Romney was running. They pushed benghazi even after the congressional inquiries came back. They gave Sarah Palin a job.

Implying they aren't an actual news agency isn't a slight, it's just the truth. They don't make any attempt at understanding.

It's not like Republican strategist Roger Ailes previously created a pro-Nixon administration, pro-GOP news agency and then after that a right-wing conservative-funded news service to create pro-right news content to provide to stations for free before then launching "Fair and Balanced" FOX

wait, nevermind, that's exactly what happened

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/23/civil-rights_n_6534922.html
Senate Republicans Remove 'Civil Rights And Human Rights' From Subcommittee Name
Quote :
"WASHINGTON -- Senate Republicans revealed this week that they have eliminated the phrase “civil rights and human rights” from the title of a Senate Judiciary subcommittee charged with overseeing those issues.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) became chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee this month and announced the members of the six subcommittees this week. With Grassley’s announcement, the subcommittee formerly known as the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights suddenly became the Subcommittee on the Constitution.

The new chairman of the newly named subcommittee is Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas). His office confirmed that it made the switch.

“We changed the name because the Constitution covers our most basic rights, including civil and human rights,” said Cornyn spokeswoman Megan Mitchell. “We will focus on these rights, along with other issues that fall under the broader umbrella of the Constitution.”

In his press release, Cornyn never used the phrase “civil rights” or “human rights.” Instead, the release said he would be a "watchdog against unconstitutional overreach and will hold the Obama Administration accountable for its actions." Cornyn is an opponent of legislation that would restore federal oversight over some local and state election changes that were eliminated when the Supreme Court gutted a key provision of the Voting Rights Act in 2013."

http://www.nationaljournal.com/congress/key-members-plot-exit-from-rsc-amid-conservative-rift-20150113

Quote :
"House conservatives are plotting a mass exodus from the Republican Study Committee as soon as next week over simmering dissatisfaction with the group's direction.

The members have been talking for weeks, and they met Monday night to formalize their plans to institutionalize a competing, invitation-only organization that they see as a real conservative caucus that can push Speaker John Boehner rightward. Once a bastion for the conservative movement, the RSC has strayed too far from its original mission and been co-opted by the same party leaders it is meant to exert pressure upon, the members believe."

Mind blowing. No matter how far the GOP as a whole swings to the right, there is a cadre of them that will never believe it is conservative enough. Its not principle, their entire schtick is to run to the right of anything and everything only so that they can scream that they are the most conservative and because its safer to just throw bombs at anything that actually makes it to the House floor because its not pure enough than to actually have a reasoned answer for their vote.

Its either that or the more scary scenario: "Conservatism" (with a big C) is finally making the transition from a political leaning (on a spectrum) to dogmatism or religion or a cult or something.

**shudder**

The tea party is going to cause the Republicans to lose yet another presidential race. I'd much rather see a moderate Republican in office than Hillary or something worse. Can the 7 hardcore conservatives (Led by Cruz) not see that this is not an effective way to win presidential elections? Do they get their advice from Hannity? It's like they think if they run on their principles alone, that will lead them to victory.

I mean, I wouldn't vote for someone like Cruz in the primary, but I'd have to pick the lesser of two evils in a presidential election. Not gonna throw away my vote for a third party candidate.

I haven't really read up on Jeb Bush, but I honestly think that unless he changes his name, he won't win anything. I thought Romney would have been a good center line candidate, but he's not running again.

God knows who we'll end up electing in the primary. I doubt I'll agree with it whoever it is.
