I wonder if anyone of us could go to their job and state for the record that not only are they going to do nothing for the rest of the year but ON TOP OF THAT they're going to make sure that half of their department shuts down at 2pm daily and still reasonably expect to remain employed.

Must be nice being an elected official in the downward spiral of his career so he doesn't give a flying fuck anymore.

Some government agencies use the entrepreneurial budgeting system whereby you are rewarded for savings, and these days there is even more target based budgeting being used (everyone gets slashed a %). And while there are a number of agencies that do base their budgeting on last years budget the way you're talking about (the various colleges at NCSU are a prime example), it doesn't mean the agencies are inherently bad, or that you could ever get away with doing nothing for the rest of the year.

Just keeping this video fresh since the individual mandate for private options that so many GOP supported saying we should do it instead of the dems preferred public option, is now the aspect over which a few republican attorney generals are suing.

He's apparently got a reputation for doing that. Wiping his hands on other people's shirts, having hand sanitizer around at all times. It doesn't matter who he's been shaking hands with.

He's a bit of a germophobe. And that's never going to look good when it's caught on film.

My questions are; if he's such a germophobe then how many gallons of hand sanitizer did he have with him on the Crawford ranch while clearing brush, and what makes him think that someone else's shirt is going to be any more germ-free than the hands he just shook.

Has there ever been a more petty group of senators in our life time?
Quote :
"
Republicans used a procedural move Wednesday to halt hearings in the Senate and force Democrats to vote on a series of politically dicey matters relating to the health care "fixes" sent over by the House this week.

Senate Republicans said they would insist that no committee meet after 11 a.m., two hours after the Senate gaveled in on Wednesday. The objection was used as part of the "two-hour rule," a formality that requires unanimous consent for the Senate to meet two hours after the chamber has come into session.

To start a hearing beyond that time now will require the approval of all 100 senators. A series of afternoon hearings were canceled as a result, with Senate Judiciary Committee Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., railing against Republicans for action that results in the delay of a hearing on a controversial judicial nominee, Goodwin Liu.

I dunno, Newt's congress decided to shut down the government completely allegedly because he felt he wasn't getting the respect he deserved.

That was pretty damned petty.

Of course, Newt's actually calling for the same sort of behavior in January 2011 if Repubs take control of one of the two houses. Shut down any funding for reform mandates and thus, shut down the mandates.

The GOP is trying to amendment the reconciliation bill to ban viagra for rapist (i'm sure that is a huge problem), with would probably pass with 100% if they'd do it as an individual bill, but they want to hold up reconciliation which is silly b/c regardless of whether the GOP likes or dislikes HCR, even they can agree that the reconciliation bill makes it better. Both sides are phony some of the times, but this is pressing it pretty hard.

New GOP obstruction strategy, shut down every committee meeting -cancel, reschedule, run out the clock:

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

A couple of generals came from Hawaii & Korea for this committee meeting, and as a part of this new strategy Burr canceled the meeting. Turns out it when McCain said he wasn't going to do any work for the rest of the year in committees, it was part of a new party wide strategy.

Running on repeal isn't going to help with that much either.

"Dems victorious in final health bill 'fixes' vote
GOP pledges to campaign on repeal; Obama: 'I welcome that fight'

WASHINGTON - Capping an epic struggle, congressional Democrats put the final touches Thursday to historic legislation enshrining health care as the right of every citizen. Republicans vowed to campaign for repeal in the fall election season, drawing a quick retort from President Barack Obama: "I welcome that fight."

The president spoke in Iowa as the Senate voted 56-43 for legislation making changes, including better benefits for seniors and low-income and middle-class families, to the bill he signed into law with a flourish at the White House on Tuesday.

The House added its approval a few hours later, 220-207, clearing the way for Obama's signature on the second of two bills that marked the culmination of what the president called "a year of debate and a century of trying" to ensure coverage for nearly all in a nation where millions lack it. Obama is expected to sign the legislation early next week."

Posting a photo of Obama gloating doesn't make it so.

The majority of Americans are still against this bill.

Young people will soon be forced to pay for a healthcare policy or face fines.
Instead of talking up a capital gains cut, Obama is now increasing it. .. all on the backs of middle America. This will hurt the economic recovery.
Taxes will be going up for 4 years will little yummies coming back.
Still haven't heard him say they're taking our all the sweetheart deals for senators to get this turkey passed.
The bill will explode the deficit. Something democrats were all worried about before.

and No comment from the pres. about dictator Castro's ringing endorsement of Obama-care?

I don't think they are. I want them to be the party of no. I want the Democrats to be the party of no. If I were a congressman right now, I would be doing everything I could to obstruct any and all legislation. You have to admit, if you believe that the legislation being passed is going to fuck things up as bad as I believe it will, you would want to block it. Boehner is pretty much your mainstream Republican, and I don't agree with him on a lot, but the speech he made on the floor was good, and he did the right thing. No one read the entire bill. They were just supporting whatever the party leadership told them to support.

http://dailycaller.com/2010/03/29/high-flyer-rnc-chairman-steele-suggested-buying-private-jet-with-gop-funds/

Quote :
"According to two knowledgeable sources, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele once raised the possibility of using party money to buy a private jet for his travel.

“I know that … regular ongoing use of planes was something that was looked at,” says one person with direct knowledge. “I can’t speak to how serious those inquiries were.” Both sources say Steele considered purchasing a plane outright, or buying fractional ownership in one, through a company such as NetJets.

Steele’s spokesman, Doug Heye, did not deny that such discussions took place, responding that the RNC never had a “plan” to buy a plane. “I don’t know what somebody might have discussed or might not have discussed.”

While Steele has not purchased a plane, he continues to charter them. According to federal disclosure records, the RNC spent $17,514 on private aircraft in the month of February alone (as well as $12,691 on limousines during the same period). There are no readily identifiable private plane expenses for Democratic National Committee chairman Tim Kaine in the DNC’s last three months of filings.

The RNC explains that Steele charters jets only when commercial service is unavailable, or when his tight schedule requires it. “Anytime the chairman has taken any private travel has been a either to a route that doesn’t exist or because of connections and multiple travel to where he just wasn’t able to do so,” Heye said. Yet Steele’s office repeatedly refused to explain in specific terms the circumstances of the February charter flights.

Once on the ground, FEC filings suggest, Steele travels in style. A February RNC trip to California, for example, included a $9,099 stop at the Beverly Hills Hotel, $6,596 dropped at the nearby Four Seasons, and $1,620.71 spent [update: the amount is actually $1,946.25] at Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage-themed nightclub featuring topless women dancers imitating lesbian sex.

RNC trips to other cities produced bills from a long list of chic and costly hotels such as the Venetian and the M Resort in Las Vegas, and the W (for a total of $19,443) in Washington. A midwinter trip to Hawaii cost the RNC $43,828, not including airfare."

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/03/28/palin-searchlight-rally/

Quote :
"Palin Tells Constitution-Loving Tea Partiers: We Don’t Need A President Who Is A ‘Constitutional Law Professor’

The Tea Party movement loves to express its affection for the Constitution. The Los Angeles Times writes, “Adherence to what supporters deem to be a strict interpretation of constitutional principles is a key tenet of the tea party movement.” Yesterday’s Tea Party rally in Searchlight, NV, for instance, was filled with imagery of the Constitution. Protesters carried signs that read “I honor the Constitution” and “What about the Constitution don’t you understand?” Rally attendee Norman Halfpenny, a 77-year old retired Marine Corps veteran, said, “We need to get our Constitution back.”

In her speech at the rally, Sarah Palin of course paid homage to the Constitution. “Our vision for America is anchored in time-tested truths that the government that governs least governs best, that the Constitution provides the path to a more perfect union — it’s the Constitution,” she exclaimed. And so it’s extremely puzzling that Palin introduced this new attack line against President Obama yesterday:

In these volatile times when we are a nation at war, now more than ever is when we need a commander-in-chief, not a constitutional law professor lecturing us from a lectern."

It's most stunning that no one in the mainstream media calls her out for this (and the teleprompter comments while reading from a prompter), but I suppose that's just the liberal media.

A similar article from the Guardian:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/mar/29/republicans-visit-la-bondage-club

Quote :
"The Republican chairman, Michael Steele, promised on taking office that he would bring the party to corners of America it had not reached before. It is a fair bet that most Republicans did not expect these corners to include the Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage and S&M club in Los Angeles.

It emerged today that the Republicans spent almost $2,000 last month on a visit to the club where topless women hang from nets on the ceiling and simulate sex in a glass case."

While it is pretty bad symbolism, combined with them having their big meeting in Hawaii to discuss financial conservatism, it is more funny than substantial.

Anyone wanting to make a substantial argument against the GOP being a party of financial conservatism only need look at what they did when they were recently in power.

It's only $2000... but how do they not realize that putting that sort of thing on the party bill is just asking for a shitstorm?

I don't have a problem with grown men going to a strip club aside from the obvious hypocrisy... and frankly I don't care if Republican donors get their money wasted... but really that sort of behavior is just monumentally stupid, and they should know better.

I don't get that comment, or why they would clap for it. I don't see how Hannity could think that made sense in any way, which leads me to question the authenticity of the clip.

After reading some video comments, one explanation that makes sense is that Hannity is mocking those in the media that compare tea partiers to terrorists. I imagine someone, at some point, called the tea party movement "Timothy McVeigh wannabes" and he was using it in that context.

Whatever he meant, it seems pretty dumb to make that comparison with the upcoming armed March on Washington for gun rights on April 19th which is the 15th anniversary of the Timothy McVeigh Oklahoma City bombing, and the recent militia attack, and the bricks through windows/gas line cut at the wrong house/leaving threatening messages for family members of congressmen you disagree with and all that lock and load atmosphere going on. That said, the bar of expectations for Hannity is set pretty low, so I'm not sure anyone will care too much.

Having traveled to Guam last year, I saw firsthand how this beautiful — but vulnerable island — could easily become overburdened, and I was simply voicing my concerns —albeit with a dry sense of humor — that the addition of that many people could tip the delicate balance and do permanent harm to Guam."
