My 2 yr old son face planted in the road yesterday when he was running. I'm talking 'don't even think about having time to put your hands down' face plant. I was like omg, he's dead. Luckily his forehead broke his fall and his teeth and nose are ok.

^^^Ohio is especially ridiculous. I looked into it after a friend told me there was one black kid in her senior class--the son of an ex-NFL player or something. There was a tiny black enclave in her township--the descendants of railroad workers from back in the day. They bus these kids out of the suburbs and into the city for school. According to her, black people are always store clerks and drug dealers, and she was genuinely confused by North Carolina. Her town's public school was a thousand times nicer than anything we could ever afford here. But, even within the city, they have separate school systems to serve the segregated populations.

I'm fine for any and most all family get togethers whatever the reason.

I'm just over the guilt trip I get every time I turn around bc we are either not making enough time or are seeing my husband's family over theirs.

The full truth of the big picture is we spend no more or less time with Justin's extended family as we do mine. The difference is bc we don't live in the same city in my in laws, whereas my parents also live in Raleigh, it appears we spend more time with them bc we have to travel out of town for it. Yes, I could spend more time with my grandparents. But they also live out of town, and there has been more than one occasion when we have made an effort to visit but then our son gets sick and I have been told due to my grandparents age and fragile health we should stay away if he has a cold.

I also get the brunt of this guilt trip bc when she gives one to my brother they basically stop speaking to her for a year.

^my mom gives me shit for not visiting her enough, i like to remind her that she has never come to visit me or any of my brothers, she expects us to at the drop of a hat come an visit her, not taking into account that we might have plans or simply cant do it

I just think that if you are going to put a guilt trip on someone for not visiting, then its because you want to see them and that maybe you should put some effort into seeing them instead of relying on the other party to visit you

OMG. THIS.

My mom expects at least a quarterly visit, plus extended holiday visits, and she even wants me to take a vacation with the family this year. But she never takes into account what I have going on, nor did she ask what a good time for the vacation was for me. The punchline is that she hasn't visited me since 2011.

Ok, end rant. And so I also feel your pain.
