At least he'll have a good excuse for the failure of the last 2 years of his presidency.

they are about to pass a ton of shitty laws and put him in the position to have to veto stuff over and over.

Shits about to get ugly. I could easily see him passing republican laws just so everything doesn't get blamed on him.

It really is fucking weird that people voted for a bunch of populist ballot measures while electing Republicans to make and implement laws. Are people just that uninformed or was it a conscious decision to just stick it to Obama? Maybe people just want to smoke pot, have unprotected sex, and watch the world burn.

I think it is clear that people are unhappy with their current lot in life. They don't blame Obama, they don't blame Republicans or Democrats, they're blaming Washington. And to most folks, this is the only way to make a change.

Right or wrong, I think that is what happened. The Republicans didn't win, it's just the Democrats lost.

That may explain the Senate races, but it doesn't explain the victories that Scott Walker and Sam Brownback achieved.

people just didn't vote. the people who voted for obama stayed home. in the states that had marijuana on the table, they showed up in droves just to vote for weed. basically obama and weed are the only thing that get the democrat voters to show up. hillary will as well.

i know so many democrats who didn't even know there was a big election this year. they think elections are only every 4 years.

So if the people that came out in droves to vote for Obama in '08 and '12 didn't come out in '10 and '14, what does that say about his voter base?

I think that speaks volumes.

Maybe the Democratic machine just wasn't bussing in enough people to the polls this time around. Or in '10.

Based on reading some articles from the Washington Post the past two days, I think Harry Reid would deck the president if he wouldn't get arrested right after. Reid has his chief aide opening up on everything but it's not the "anonymous source" stuff, he's up front and open publicly on the record as the source.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/midterm-disaster-rips-apart-awkward-ties-between-obama-and-senate-democrats/2014/11/05/5bdd257a-650e-11e4-9fdc-d43b053ecb4d_story.html?tid=pm_politics_pop

If Obama gives a shit and wants a conduit in the Senate that supports him, he has to back someone that defeats Reid for Senate Minority Leader.

I bet Hillary Clinton right now is real glad she's on the sidelines and is not in the middle of this crap.

are annoyed when churches bring people to vote for unconstitutional constitutional amendments, sure. i haven't seen anyone say that it's wrong or shouldn't be allowed though. the other side claims it's almost criminal fraud.

Part of it - at least in southern states - is that 2008 was when black voter turnout jumped much higher. Black voter turnout has always been lower than white voter turnout. So Southern states where blacks are larger proportions of the population than anywhere else in the country saw their average voter change for one election. The same thing was not true in 2010 or this election - there was no Obama at the top of the ballot to provide coattails.

I like minorities in office, even when they're republican, because they usually end up getting mocked/harassed by other republicans reinforcing the expectation that republicans are out of touch with evolving demographics.

look at michael steele, and bobby jindal (he did a lot of this to himself though with his plodding speaking style-- but the republicans didn't have his back at all).

Pay no attention to the additional troops being dispatched to Iraq to help combat ISIS. Those aren't boots on the ground, they're military advisers serving non-combat roles.

Our two options are more boots on the ground, or engaging regional powers even Iran. Romney probably would have committed more troops, maybe done another surge, but for Obama, who's goal is a stable long term situation, some level of relationship with Iran (along with the other surrounding countries) is a necessary strategy, and likely a better strategy than just brute force. There was a panel on cspan the other week and the 3 panelists were all disappointed in the Obama admin for ignoring the warning signs for isis, but all 3 also agreed Iran had a Major stake I the outcome, but dismissed the idea of the USA even working with Iran. Looks like they might be wrong.

The Iranian people are some of the most progressive in the middle east, they are a freer society than Saudi Arabia. We should be engaging them, in the ideal world. In the real world, despite the practicality of being on good terms with Iran, we are also allies with Israel who hates Iran.

But Obama is not wrong for talking to Iran.

Getting Iran involved is just going to piss the extreme Sunnis off even more. The best option is for us to stop trying to "fix" Iraq, cut our losses and leave it alone. Otherwise, endless war will continue and all sides will be able to blame us for their differences.

How can they ever resolve their issues if we are always involved?

Arab League nations will also do more to fight ISIS and there will likely be some ad hoc cross-sect alliances between Iran and more Arab League nations. It's not an ideal situation, but we have to face the reality that we have lost significant influence in the region because of our foreign policy there over the last decade+

The letter to Iran was good, the current situation dictates that we have to work with Iran. It's the bed we made and now we have to lie in it.

What's his deal... Soon as he loses congress, he nominates a new fiery attorney General, comes out big for net neutrality, now he's making bold moves on immigration, next thing you know he'll be Obama the presidential candidate again.

He is doing everything he can in this lame duck session to make the next two years as difficult as possible for him. He knows exactly what he needs to do to piss this congress off, and he's doing it. He said he would wait a while for congress to do something on immigration, and now he's not. He's not even giving them a chance.

A surprise defender of Obama
http://tasteofcountry.com/merle-haggard-president-obama/

Quote :
"“It was also nice to meet Obama and find him very different from the media makeout. It’s really almost criminal what they [the media] do with our President,” Haggard tells Rolling Stone. “There seems to be no shame or anything. They call him all kinds of names all day long, saying he’s doing certain things that he’s not. It’s just a big old political game that I don’t want to be part of. There are people spending their lives putting him down.”

“I’m sure some of it’s true and some of it’s not,” he continues. “I was very surprised to find the man very humble and he had a nice handshake. His wife was very cordial to the guests and especially me. They made a special effort to make me feel welcome. It was not at all the way the media described him to be.”

“He’s not conceited,” he adds. “He’s very humble about being the President of the United States, especially in comparison to some presidents we’ve had who come across like they don’t need anybody’s help. I think he knows he’s in over his head. Anybody with any sense who takes that job and thinks they can handle it must be an idiot.”"
