I really REALLY hope we don't lose Cat or Abu. Lacey wouldn't surprise me if someone convinces him of a first round spot. I do not want to see Cat or Abu leave. Abu will be a FREAK for us if he stays. We're just now starting to see Cat's peak.

#Honest I kind of think Ingram is overrated a bit and I also dont think we're going to get him - if he wanted to commit to use he would have done it in the fall. He's one of those long, gangly athlete types who takes a couple years to grow into his body and more likely will be a better pro than a college player

Yeah, he doesn't seem to do anything particularly well, but he's got a really long frame and seems to have good touch on his shots. I'd take him or leave him.

He's also super thin. Like, Starvin Marvin-eque.

Not saying you cant win with guys like him, it seems Arizona has four guys like that on their roster every year but I dont think he's make or break for us and I'd rather just roll with the Martin twins than risk any kind of chemistry problem.

That's silly. Lacey probably isn't an NBA-caliber athlete, unfortunately. Just not long enough or explosive enough to ever be a plus defender, and he's already 23. He'll never be able to get to the rim at the next level and his outside shot is good but not incredible.

Being able to create and hit 40% on midrange jumpers in iso situations is a nice skill but it's not in high demand in the pro game.

I still think it's hilarious people think cat is going to go pro this year.

He's made a lot of improvements this year, but there are still things that he needs to work on before he'd ever see the floor in the NBA.

Its not a question of whether they are capable of going pro for me. It's about being stupid/naive/gullible enough to believe people telling you will get drafted when you have no chance.

Ex - CJ Leslie & Brandon Costner

I don't think any of them will get drafted. That doesn't mean they won't listen to others that might disagree.

The thing about Lacey is his stock isnt going to change in another year. He's a guy who is going to have to fight for a roster invite whether he goes now or next year. I don't think he goes because he seems to really enjoy playing for us but who knows.

Cat wants to declare and get paid. The more we win the more I'm going to worry. So far, we've been fortunate in that no media/nba draft guys have blowing smoke up his ass.

I'm not saying there is a chance Cat goes pro this year, but you guys know he had a kid a few months ago, right? That situation has pushed a ton guys to declare early before they were ready.

I do think there is a really good chance he leaves after next year if continues this level of play. I can also see Abu leaving after his sophomore year if he keeps improving at this pace. A little bit of polish on that athletic specimen makes a solid first round prospect.

Kind of a Lorenzo Brown situation. Except Lacey may be even more under the radar the Brown.

I would think that Lacey would get picked up somewhere just off of his ability to get his own shot combined with shooting nearly 40% from 3.

[Edited on March 23, 2015 at 8:34 PM. Reason : If PJ Hairston was a first rounder, Lacey should be too.]

PJ Hairston is what 6-8, has better range than Lacey, and more physically ready. I love Lacey, but the NBA doesn't give a shit about mid range shooters anymore. It is all about threes and shots at the rim. Lacey will make money in Europe, but never the NBA IMO.

Somebody will draft Lacey in June, even if it's in the 2nd round. I mean, you're gonna tell me the 2015 Final Four MVP doesn't even get drafted?

the iso ball fad kind of died in the nba the last couple years and even if it hadnt they want dudes like carmelo and dirk running it not a 6'3 combo guard. i could see a team like houston who likes to pick up 2nd round guards with unique skills grabbing him and giving him a shot but it's not going to be easy. kyrie is already on his 2nd contract and trevor is 6 months younger than him. jrue holiday has been in the nba for like 6 years and he's barely a year older

I dont see anyone on this team going pro without a Final four run at minimum. Its not like Barber is putting up Pitt #s game after game.

I mean, if they decide to go pro, its because they are willing to play overseas.

Cat would have to be a much better shooter. Lacey would have to completely change his game.

Abu has the best shot as a project.

If Barber plays a full season like he did the second half of this year, he'll have a chance to be a 2nd round pick.

I actually think our 2 most likely NBA prospects are Abu and Anya. I really think if Anya can drop another 20lbs and just develop his game a little more(mainly offense and foul issues), he'd have a shot. But definitely going to need to be able to play 28-30 minutes/night instead of 19.

But either way, Ingram is waiting to see who goes pro at Duke, if the expected 3 guys go pro he'll end up at Duke. Seems to be a general consensus that he won't be a one-and-done unless he has a drastic improvement(in game and body).

I think Cat has a fairly good shot. His game isn't that far off from Dennis Schroder's. Lead guard position is really saturated, though. Hard to think a guy who is as good as he is at getting to the rim and converting there won't make it when he at least has a jump shot.

Cat's definitely got pro potential, but with guards, unless you have some real freakish physical attributes it's hard to standout. Cat's got his speed but otherwise not a special athlete at only 6'2" 170. He would need to improve the mental aspect of his game and become an elite shooter before NBA teams will touch him.

Abu is definitely a pro, thank god he seems to love the college game right now.

Why isn't Lacey by far the best NBA prospect on our team? His Iso game is elite, great shooter, good defender.

I personally don't think he's a bad NBA prospect like many on here are saying...but he's definitely not a great one. He's got just enough size and athletic ability to standout in the college game...but in the NBA he'll be undersized and not athletic enough.

I think he's crafty enough to survive in the NBA...but he doesn't have the potential to be a long-term starter...so he probably won't get drafted high...if at all.

There is no recruiting news to be had. This line of discussion is perfectly reasonable for this thread (as it was born out of a recruiting topic).

our recruiting is reliant on the guys being nba prospects

for instance, we're going hard after dennis smith in 2016 but there is a 0% chance he comes here if cat is still in school for his senior year

I'd say the odds of a transfer are way higher than anyone going pro (lol), but even then, it's pretty damn low.

I don't see why Cat wouldn't go pro if he continued his high level of play next year. All he needs is a more consistent jump shot (which he pretty much has had for the last 10 or so games). If he keeps that up next year, he's pretty much hit his ceiling and would have no reason to stay. Add that to the fact that he has a kid...I'd be surprised if he DIDN'T go pro next year.

Hopefully we can reel in a competent back-up this year and get Smith next year and we'll be golden.

quick, somebody photoshop him into more pics to get him hyped for our program!

maybe make like a tight YouTube video where we start jumping and then along with it go "ooooooooooooo" and get louder like "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH" and then switch to "PACK! PACK! PACK! PACK! OOOOOO PACK! PACK! PACK! PACK! OOOOOOOOOOOO! POWER PACK! POWER PACK! BACK THE PACK!" and then play a loud rockin rap song or somethin. i think it would get him crazy for our program.

Could really make or break Gott legacy at NCSU. I personally think the kid is an absolute stud and better than Cat.

Lacey is not a great NBA prospect because he is too short to be a NBA 2 and not quick enough and does not have the ball handling skills to be a point.

Dennis Smith Jr is a 2016 recruit though so he'd never play with Lacey, and might not ever play with Cat if he jumps after next year.

He'd be a huge get though. Would be pretty ridiculous to go from Brown to Lewis/Barber to Barber to Smith Jr. after dealing with the Javi's & Farnold's of the Lowe era.

^^^ Yeah, but Brown wasn't at point under Lowe. I'll admit I totally forgot about Harrow though.

It is pretty crazy to think about how much more consistent our talent at PG has been lately. We went through a couple of really, really terrible years in regard to the production we got out of our PG's.

Why can't we ever seem to get the timing right to have seasoned big man studs AND legitimate ball handling guards playing at the same time!!!!!!?????
