warranty is good for one year on parts and labor. getting it from a friend who works at the store - it will be coming directly from the store to your house (same or next day), depending on how serious the offer is.

you'd be an idiot to pay over $1000 for a 42" plasma that only does 720p/1080i

for example here's a 1080p 42" under $1000

First off, you are comparing LCD to Plamsa.

Secondly, compare how long westinghouse has been in business to hitachi. Westinghouse is on the up, but Hitachi has been in the market far longer.

Bottom line, if you are not interested, please continue to read on and don't post. If someone else is trying to save a little bit of money by not buying this TV at full price, then that is who I'd be interested in talking with.

you can buy that TV at Sears for $899... and you can also get an extra $150 off if you use a Sears card (I just bought a similar model there)

Hate to break it to you but Plasma is the older technology with HDTV.
LCD is the way to go.
And neither Hitachi -NOR- Westinghouse probably actually built the parts that actually went into the TV.
Who has been in business longer has no bearing on this whatsoever.
The only thing that really matters with HDTV today is the specs.
Besides...Black Friday is right around the corner. Gonna be wicked deals then. Why would anybody look at anything near full price?

Westinghouse has been around for longer than hitachi

The Westinghouse Electric Corporation was an organization founded by George Westinghouse in 1886 as Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company.

Hitachi was founded in 1910 as an electrical repair shop. Today, it is one of the leading manufacturers in new technology.

it's got it beat by 24 years... it could almost rent a car before hitachi came around...

but truth was spoken in the words that neither of the companies probably make the vast majority of the components in those TV's... that and Westinghouse = first american radars...

(both companies have been around for a long time and are capable of building quality products...)

Does this have anything to do with programming being broadcasted in 1080P thus making the 1080i's worthless? I'm curious as to when these HDTV's (LCDs and plasmas, DLP's already are low) are going to become even more affordable??

^^

It has to do with the Friday after Thanksgiving where stores have insane sales to get the Christmas shopping season kicked off.
Traditionally, that Friday would be such a busy day that it could make the difference between a store being in the Red or Black (profits wise) for the year.
Because this day is so important to the bottom line, stores would almost give things away to get people through their door first.
I would not be at all suprised to see the same TV go for 499.00 on Black Friday in a store or two.

^^ you won't be able to return it. he's getting a friend who's an employee of CC to buy it for him with his employee discount and then trying to sell it for more than his friend paid. if you tried to return it you wouldn't have a receipt, and if you did have a receipt showing his friends employee number they'd fire his friend on the spot for theft.

looking at it though, CC might have a different policy than the store i work at when it comes to employee discounts. the gift receipt might mean that he can purchase 1 or so a year to give as a gift to someone. still sounds like his friend is taking a risk though

i think someone should drop an email to circuit city with this thread in it. "beating the man" sounds like a smart idea to me...

well he said gift receipt so i thought it was the usual receipt where i can return and get full store credit back

do CC/BB employees have a limit on how many things they can buy? otherwise i could see them buying for cheap and reselling on the regular market

writing an email to Circuit City is worthless - they don't know which store the guy works at, so logically, they could fire everybody working there . With the gift receipt, you could return the TV for a refund (same way paid, which I would do cash) to get the exact amount returned. You would not get 100% of the value returned (b/c I'm getting it for slightly less), but you would get 100% of what I paid for it back. Bottom line is you shouldn't be buying it if you don't want it. Any defects will be covered under the warranty.

why don't you rephrase the question to be "what are you paying for it?". then, i could give you a clear answer. You obviously aren't interested, so please don't comment any further.

i was interested in it and i need to know if i don't like it how or if something went wrong within 30 days how much can i get back

but obviously it seems like you have something to hide thus have not yet disclosed any information which is pertinent to the sale

so therefore i can not trust this transaction
