I'm part of NC State's Nourish International chapter, a non-profit organization that earns money to fund and facilitate development projects overseas. We are teaming up with the UNC and Duke chapters to host a poker tournament to raise money for our cause.

[/words]

What: Hold'em for Hunger poker tournament

When: April 1st.

Where: UNC's Great Hall (I'm sorry, we will try to get one at NC State next year, or maybe even compete against them)

Prizes: This years prize list is not finalized yet (I'll update with details when I get them), but last years prizes included: a 42” DLP HDTV, 60gb Video iPod, Vegas-Style Slot Machine, $375 Amazon.com Gift Certificate, and more, all they way down to 40th place. Everyone that participates gets a meal and a T-shirt. And, if you are one of the first 64 out, you play in a rock paper scissors tournament for an iPod nano.

Cost: 25$

Email: ncsu@nourishinternational org for ticket information, or just send me an email on tww.

For additional information about our organization, visit http://www.nourishinternational.org, from there, you can also get additional information on the tournament.

Thanks!

^It is, we're just starting here though, so we need the help from UNC at first. Come and play, then you can brag about beating them at their own tournament.

I guess they are planning for a lot of people to play huh? I don't see how with $25/person you can pay for all that stuff and still make a profit to donate. Do you have funding coming from somewhere else or are companies donating the prizes?

^All of the prizes are donated. 100% of the money raised goes to the orginization. I think we are expecting ~350 people, so it's not a huge amount.

This is a pretty serious tournament. My friends organized the first one. They contacted a major poker player Phil Gordon who donated a free DVD of one of his training videos for every single contestant. They put a year of planning into this tournament, getting donations and support from over a dozen companies. I'm always impressed with the big ticket prizes they get.

Yeah, you've got to buy tickets in advance, Our chapter is selling them.

email ncsu@nourishinternational.org or send me a message and someone will let you know how to get a ticket. (We don't have an office or anything here at state, so we'd have to set up a meeting.) Thanks!

Confused. This thread says April 1st. The webpage main page says April 22, and if you click on "Info for Participants" it's all old information from last year. When is it?

Also, do you have to be a student (at one of the universities)? My dad would probably want to do this too.

Sorry, the webpage must be wrong. It is this sunday, April 1st. Anyone can enter and your dad is completely welcome to participate, though, the majority of players will probably be college kids (since it is being run by college kids).

We've got 22 tickets left, after that, you'll have to get them through UNC...

Check out http://www.holdemforhunger.org/ for information instead of the previous website.

Hah, thanks for playing though. Did you manage to get seated at a bigger table? sorry they put you at such a tiny one, I didn't know they were going to do that.

I didn't do much better, out at around 300.

^^were you at the small table by the back entrance? I ended up going at the last minute and got seated at the table in the back near a small 4-5 person one.

I went out a bit after the first time the blinds went up, but legatic lasted a few hours, and one of our friends ended up being 21st

hah nice.

I coulda used someone else from NCSU at my table, some of the people traded so friends could sit together, and they would pretend to spit anytime anyone said anything about NCSU.

Yeah, I had that experience too, even though I helped put it together...

We'll try to get one at ncsu next year. If you guys have any suggestions or things you'd like to see, let me know.

Thanks.
