"So ladies if you were in her position, would you feel the same way? Or guys, would you still go out and drop a couple g's on a big ol' rock anyhow? If she tells me she doesn't want it, I'm inclined to do what she says."

i doubt if you gave her a really nice anniversary ring she would decline it

girls love things that go sparkle no matter if it comes from the husband, father, uncle, or even from themselves.

i guess it depends. she might be saying no when she really means yes or she might be serious

why not just get her a nice pair of diamond earrings or a a necklace if you feel like getting her something "upgraded"

"if an upgrade/'nicer ring' was wanted by the wife, or if the husband wanted to do it, it'd usually be an anniversary gift. i'd want to keep the ring untouched, as said ^. but i've seen hubbies buy their wife a very nice ring for 5, 10, 15, however many years anniversary when the engagement one was an inexpensive one."

yea, the diamonds for my moms original engagement ring came from a ring of my dad's grandmother, and he had them reset.
then for one of their recent anniversaries, i think it was 28th, but im not sure, he got her a really nice solitaire with a platinum band and then a platinum wedding band to match it.

No Stinger, she genuinely doesn't want anything to replace the real engagement/wedding band. She said the money didn't matter because it was all I/we could afford at the time and thats what matters most about it to her.

It doesn't bother me, shit I'm happy I don't have a wife that feels I must spend gobs of money on her on somewhat trivial shit to make her happy. Hell my best friends wife the day before they got married was pissed at him and the only way to make her happy was for him to go out and drop hundreds of dollars on a Louie Vuiton handbag at the store in the mall (this was in LA) even though they were broke, and in fact quite in debt. Shit like that made me realize how truely blessed I was to have a wife that isn't so damn materialistic. It was just with what some of the discussion on here had been, I thought it might be an interesting topic to hear about from some other women, esp. some women who said they definitely want a rock and a big one.
