The administration has the power to do whatever it wants at a whim, and the senate is subject to that. Without the administration/university's support & funding the SG couldn't exist at all.

Yes. If we could move to a direct voting system where senate is removed and all students get a vote, then it is far more representative. A new balance could be worked out between the remaining parts of student government and the administration to take up any duties necessary to make this balance work.

For further discussion of this direct democracy idea see:

I don't agree. It works fine if no one from the real world becomes involved in the University bubble, but if the Student Senate happens to pull in legislators, lawyers and the press into the mix supporting us (as some have pledged already to) it becomes a different situation. Dr. Stafford may be someone with a lot of control in the administration, but if the Board of Governors or General Assembly doesn't like what he is doing, nor special interest groups that are willing to advocate on SG's behalf, then he is going to take things much more seriously for the sake of his own job. You think a Vice Chancellor would stay in office if the donors of this University became frustrated with the actions the administration has taken?

There are real people in SG and nothing stops us from taking "real" actions when we need to. We don't need any more "fake" bills anyways passed on this subject... we've made our stance.

And btw... when you start doing so, things happen:

So we are gonna have elections it would seem, but thankfully Staffords stance on part-time students not being to run for office , held strong. SG didnt come out victorious, even though they will spend the next few weeks talking bout how they did.
wtf, ive wasted too much time on this shit anyway.

Letting part-time students vote and run for office in Dr. Stafford's argument is based upon the same principles (the enfranchisement clause is the one which states vote in elections AND participate and his interpretation thereof is why he claims he took action... however there is in fact MORE reason behind letting part-time students run for office than there is reason in the Student Body Constitution to let them vote). The outcome next year will not change because of what he has done (Scott knows he will not get enough support to make a runoff in the SBP race and Tracy... he has agreed to step down from the ballot to allow part-times to vote before Dr. Stafford’s compromise was on the table).

Why should we be thankful that Dr. Stafford held strong on a stance? Is this something just because he is standing up against people in SG and seemingly “putting them in their place” that we should be supportive of it? Why not look at the real impact this ban has and see that it provides no benefit to ANYONE to support Dr. Stafford on this argument that part-times should not run. What change will come about from it? It doesn’t make any. A change to the Student Body Constitution would have to be made or places in our Constitution ignored for Dr. Stafford’s reforms to be put in place... banning part-times for one election, or voting as he had planned earlier doesn’t make these changes.

Despite some people in Student Government being despicable (right or wrong) due to actions they’ve taken this year, this fight is not one of those actions and I hope everyone can see that.

The elections have started as of about 15 mins ago... heres your first chance to see action... vote no on senates desired changes to show them just how much we care.

(its on the part time voters getting full time benefits, which goes against their own constitution and is the reason they screwed up the first election so that its being held now in april)

But regardless of what you think about that specifically, its still a chance to show senate how we feel about them.

"Friends,

I hope you are all doing well. I have spent the last few months moving around the
country at football camps preparing for the NFL.

I have one favor to ask of everyone. I would like you all to elect my friend Will
Langley as your next Student Body President.

Will Langley has what it takes to lead our student body and is the best man for the
job.

Langley and I go back to our freshmen year and have been friends ever since. A vote
for Langley is a vote to keep tailgating, the Wolfpack spirit and your student voice
strong.

I know what a strong work ethic is and Langley's got it.

Take note, GO VOTE! Vote now at http://vote.ncsu.edu. It only takes a minute to
make my friend Will Langley win with a mandate so we can get a Bojangles student
special, start a book rental program, and keep tailgating as a tradition.

Thank you Wolfpack family. You all have been good to me and I miss you greatly.

Go Pack!

^there are two ways to read that.

1) No one cares how things turn out.

2) No one cares for the well being of SG

I don't know about SG as a whole, but I think 2 is the correct option for many people out there who are tired of senate. I think plenty of people will jump on the opportunity to oppose senate by voting NO on their constitution change.

didn't TPC endorse someone else as a write in candidate?

I voted cody williams for his hillsborough improvement college feel plans since the area sucks so much right now.

But I also took the chance to say NO to senate and enjoyed it.

Everyone should consider voting for Cody Williams before wasting a vote elsewhere. He's never been in Student Government before, which may be a good thing , and he has leadership experience from being the President of IRC for two years, among the other roles he's taken. He worked on Homecoming for the last couple of years too.

If you elect him in he'll create a different atmosphere in SG. If you have ever stopped by the IRC office in the basement of Turlington Residence Hall then looked at the SG office in Witherspoon... or compared the types of people between the organizations, you’ll understand a bit of what I mean.

He’s really a selfless person too and will get a lot of work done.

His website is here: http://cody.wolfpacklife.com/
