highlights: Rome praised Mario for Def player of the Week in wk1. 2nd year easier for Mario after first year under belt, off-season work, etc. Baited on Bush comparisons, but "nothing to say about Reggie...not even thinking about that". Moving around on D line and hurt foot were challenges in year 1. per Rome, Kubiak recently said Mario is "Down in and down out a force on defense." Rome praised Mario for helping out Omobe (sp?) with his transition as a high d-line draft pick. Mario gave high praise for Schaub - "been a general ever since he came here...a huge addition for us." Mario declined to compare Schaub to Carr.

Upcoming Colts game is "biggest challenge yet", "have to play fundamental football...get hats on the ball...make Peyton move around...must disrupt him with our front four"

Rome said "I respect and admire the way you have handled this". Mario knows "you're only as good as your last game...won't yet say the tide is turning (per Rome's earlier comment)...just have to wait until the end of the season and add'em up then".

Rome closed with more praise for how well Mario handled all the scrutiny last year, didn't hide from it but handled it with class.

Overall, Mario was well-spoken and open but refused to take any bait and badmouth Bush or David Carr - "just need to keep working hard and playing fundamental football", and the rest will take care of itself.

after the break Rome followed up with more positive comments about Mario's attitude and the way he has handled all the pressure - "great respect", "pragmatic and realistic", "you have to 'get' that guy"
