So what, so they towed a car. I have a friend who can top this.

He was a graduate student from Spain. It was Christmas Break and he decided to go home and visit his folks. I guess a friend dropped him off at the airport while he left his car parked outside his apartment.
... the apartment complex decided to repave the parking lot during this time. They gave folks like 2 weeks notice then the cars were towed. By the time my friend got back from Spain his car had been towed and because it was a long break they had crushed the car. No joke. So that's how my friend lost his Mitsubishi Eclipse.

He has epic bad luck. This is but one of many similar stories in his ill-fated existence.

at my apartment complex, when they repaved the parking lot, they just towed the cars to the other parking lot in the apartment.

^^ 2 weeks he had it good. At my apt complex they literally gave the residents <24 hours notice. btw oopss this was Sunday during the 1st weekend of spring break. so a bunch of kids were already gone on break and got a great surprise upon returning to seeing a brand new parking lot minus their cars. I know my was on my door <12 hours from when i was leaving for my trip. I just happened to come back to my apt one last time and saw the notice otherwise i was about to have a friend pick me up to crash at their place so we could all ride to the airport together.

people used to firebomb the towing companies pretty regularly and it "kept them in check", but lately, things have slacked off bigtime

i call bs on that, its not in a tow companies interest to crush a car when they make money on keeping it in storage.

Or selling it, or stripping it for parts. That seems quasi-legal.

this all makes me think of kensington park. no personal stories, but i remember ace towing milked that place from every metaphorical udder they could find. Thing was, the lots often had plenty of space, so it served no useful purpose other than to make money.

or, it could be that there were plenty of available spaces because people knew better than to park illegally.

i just wanna get a boot and when you see a tow truck parked either trying to tow a car or parked on the side of the road looking for cars and put it on his wheels and just be like oh 100 bucks to get it off you were parked in the middle of the road.

Solinari, is there a reason you have a pic of the twin towers burning with a PWNT on it in your gallery?

some thing never change....

back in the 90s I lived for a while in Gorman Slummings. A tow truck was trying to hook somebody's car - I tihnk he was not in an actual spot or in front of a dumpster or something - and a bunch of partying students rocked this guy's car back and forth, bouncing it to get it out of line with the back of the tow truck. After 4 or 5 attempts, the driver said screw it and moved on.

good times

^^ haha when I lived at falcon ridge back in the day, there was a dude parked in a neighbors spot. instead of getting it towed, a bunch of drunk guys at a party decided that theyd just pick up the car and put it in the woods. Once they realized that beer doesnt actually make you stronger and that the woods were too far away, they managed to get the car as far as the middle of the lot. So of course the tow truck came and scooped the car up. The owner of that car must have had a BAD night, had to pay the two fee and realize that your car is fucked up from drunks trying to pick it up and dropping flying knees on it to make the alarm stop.

so, say you are about to get towed and you jump in the car and proceed to start it up and drive. if there was enough room in front of you would you be able to get off?

well i was thinking this last night as my friend was about to get towed. the back of her car was picked up about 1' off the ground and nothing was "hooked". she ended up payin the 50 to get it dropped though.

Yeah, and one time I went on vacation for 3 months and forgot to pay my mortgage, so the bank came over and burned down my house.

I'm seriously gonna boot a tow truck sometime and then when they say you have no right I'll just say "just as you have no right to haul that car..."

Except they do. If they are towing a car from private property and they have the permission of the owner of the property, they have the right.
