The DS should see a nice boost in Japan. Square has showcased a 3-D remake of FFIII (NOT the esper/Terra game known now as VI). After releasing that game the company will release FFV and VI on the GBA. FFIV is due for the GBA this Christmas. Let's just hope they do a better job than they did for the PS1 versions. And how about a little Chrono Trigger while they're at it?

Nintendo is releasing a handy little USB adapter that will only DS owner to go online even if they don't have wireless.

CASTLEVANIA DS is the absolute shit. It's the only game that's teared me from Advance Wars.

i'm fine with psp games. castlevania has never appealed to me. i dont think the novelty of it being on a handheld is going to change that. virtua tennis for the psp however is amazing, so i, in turn, can say that i'm laughing at the DS people and have just as much ground to stand on.

madden nfl 06 for psp is probably going to be recalled completely.

Sony announced that they will be offering streaming television on the PSP with DVR functionality,

2gb memory stick pro duo cards are 125 bucks, sony saying they will be releasing special high capacity storage for the psp (for the dvr above)

CF card reader adapters for the psp will be out by christmas.

I used the downgrader on mine, put it back to 1.5, and can honestly say it now is 100% better than the DS. Being able to play the bajillion old games on a portable platform is all I could ever ask for.

yeah if you are in to old games. I've already played and/or beaten the ones that were worth my time.

Nostalgia only goes so far before attritrion kicks in........i've got the entire catalog on my xbox and honestly all I've done is just keep jumping old game to old game for the novelty factor.

it's just not the same as new, current titles to me. On that majority playing field, I think PSP is getting it's ass handed to it (for original games). But if you wanna make that (emulated old shit) a competing catagory I can see why you would.

considering there are about 10,000 games between the nintendo, snes and genesis, and as a kid I might have managed to play 100 of them, there is MUCH more fun to it than nostalgia.

I don't even play the games I did back in the day just for that reason, they are fun for about 10 minutes, until you realize you already beat the thing.

So that leaves me with THOUSANDS of quality games that I have yet to play. It's completely different than playing them on an xbox or any other large screen platform. I could care less about 3d graphics or ubergizmo shit. The NES/SNES/Genesis had good games, most of which I've never played.

Frankly I'd MUCH rather jump into a game of Joust, Dragon Warrior 2, Phantasy Star or River CIty Ransom (all games I never got to play as a kid) than Nintendogs or Ridge Racer or any of that shit.

Not to mention with SCUMM emulation I can play all the SWEET ass Sierra / LucasArts games I drooled over as a kid, but couldn't afford to buy.

By the way, it can also play gameboy and gameboy color games full speed, and even GBA emulation is there (opening up a TON more great games I never played).

Compare that to either library (or both) of the PSP and DS, and for $$ for enjoyment, the psp is by far the cheaper and longer lasting option.

That said, Ill probably still buy the DS for Advance Wars (unless theres a DS emulator )

I agree 100% with the Scumm emulator, it's the best thing so far about the PSP.

It is also true that (real) PSP games have been kind of lacking up to this point, but it's really starting to pick up.

Noen, which GBA emu do you use? Most of the ones I've tried have impossible framerates, even with tweaking.

You really can't compare having emulators on your xbox to having them on the PSP.


With my PSP, I can carry 5-6 different (full size) game consoles and a library of the best games for each. Whip it out, and play them anywhere! And those older games (in my book) are some of the best suited for quick, mobile gaming spurts.

I understand completely. I just think the DS offers more sheer current title fun than the PSP does. Games like Advance Wars DS, Meteos, Kirby DS, and Castlevania DS , are some of the most fun games I've played in a long time. And I've put RPG length quality time in each of them. And theres tons more coming including free wireless gampeplay with very solid titles.

Keep in mind also that SCUMM is available on DS believe it or not, it looks great - and in addition, you can use your stylus for point/click adventure titles. It works perfectly. Same with FPS's which control WONDERFULLY with stylus as a mouse-like control.

In fact, nintendo and snes emulators are gaining ground too using flash connectivity market. Theres already versions that are up to speed.

Just a thought to remember. The DS isnt a totally void in ahem, 'additional' abilities.

^yea you also end up spending MORE than the PSP for a DS with all the extra crap needed to play anything homebrew. Plus you have three pieces of hardware sticking out of the thing.

Not to mention the DS is slower than the PSP, and the SCUMM VM on the DS is still not able to play the games back at normal speeds (from what I read).

I definitely agree about the current titles though, PSP is getting more and more behind the curve.

They were confirming that their version of the downgrader is not a virus, and mentioned this:

Well I made my comment b/c GTA has basically been a carbon copy series since GTA 3. IMO, the plot is merely an excuse to go around on the similar missions or just randomly cause chaos.

If that is what you like, I won't stop you from enjoying it. GTA is just often critisized for being unoriginal at this point, and saying that it would usher in a new generation or originality was so anti-cliche.

There used to be a good info site about their practices called ps2banz but it appears that they sued to get it taken down. Which is another good reason to not like them IMO.
