"If its not based on playing games, then what exactly is it based on? Please elaborate on your point. The entire system expands upon gaming by giving you a clean interface and many options for communication. If you've never played squad based games or any game requiring more then 1 person, let me be the first to tell you that communication is key. This service expands upon that by leaps and bounds by offering voice and video messaging. I mean I dont want to sound like a fanboi here, but you really need to elaborate on how the new Live is not based on playing games."

All the new live aspects that they showed mostly ignored playing games. They mentioned being able to separate into different skill levels, but the emphasis of the show was not on that. It was: "Look! Here is a user called 'Thundergirl'. She is a novice. Watch how she can go and chat with people. She can also design new levels for people and even sell things over live!" That was the MS emphasis of the new live. Then they went on to show how 360 would allow millions of different peripherals to be attached to the system and how you can use all of this multimedia stuff. Their demonstration emphasised computer aspects more than game aspects.

They then went on to show several really shitty game videos. My point is that if it was based on games at this point, they would have actually emphasised this and actually had a good video ready.

"Xbox360 is quoted to be launching with about 40 titles. "

Doesn't mean that they are good. Microsoft has a tendancy to just throw everything that they have into the light and tout it as the next Messiah. They really didn't do that here and it makes me doubt their launch.

Quote :
"Your point is an oxymoron."

You can have a weak launch and sell units. The N64 launch was weak. Sure, they sold out of units, but they only had 3 games and a small library promised. People were disappointed. Perhaps you would like the phrase "disapointing launch?"

I'm tired of arguing this point with you because its obvious to me, that your only evidence for anything in this discussion is your intrepretation of Xbox360's abilities and functions. An interpretation, might I add, that lacks the knowledge and understanding of the Xbox product line.

The End.

Better than your argument / interpretation.

Your argument: "Its Microsoft. It can't fuck up!!!11one"

I'm fascinated by the 360 not because of its library of games, but rather the implementation of some of its new features (such as the new Live). Strangely, standalone games have become more boring to me than I would have thought. Since I got Live, I have begun to clearly prefer games with special features such as online play, multimedia connectivity, customizable options, etc. I do own all 3 systems, and I was completely resistant to get an Xbox until my roommates were in the beta test for Live. My Xbox titles now outnumber the total of all of my PS2 titles and Gamecube titles by almost 2:1, and I can largely attribute that to the online play of the Xbox titles.

So yes, even though it's completely backwards, I'm much more interested in the features of this new system than I am the games. I know that the truly great games will come in time, and I'm much more fascinated by thinking about how those games will utilize some of these features than simply thinking about how "pretty" they might be. After all, "pretty is as pretty does."

^ My guess is it won't fully work. The 360 will come out this year and Longhorn 2007(?). It'll work in some capacity though.

pretty sure the HD and surround wasn't a requirement, but that you'd want them to "get the full experience"

HD should be if all games are required to run at 720p. You could buy an HD converter and play with shittastic quality on a regular screen.

Surround sound won't be.

What makes you think that games will REQUIRE an HDTV just because they support them?

yeah, supporting and requiring aren't the same things. even if the games CAN all be displayed in HD doesn't mean you have to always have them output in only HD...

Thats the crap that retards at Best Buy throw at shoppers but its not true. Television signals will have to be digital at some point (forget the date) but that doesn't mean High-Defintion. Of course it sells more TV's if they tell you that all TV signals will have to be HD (instead of just digital) and therefore you'll be wasitng money if you bought a non-HD set... its bullshit

^^ no actually it does mean High Definition. There's a set mandate for HD as there is one for digital only broadcast.

That's odd, have not seen a word on that...
Quote :
"Of importance is that the FCC has not mandated HDTV signals; it has only mandated that digital TV signals be broadcast. The prevailing expectation, however, is that HDTV during primetime will be the rule. It is not clear whether broadcasting HDTV or multiple standard definition channels during non primetime hours will become common."

http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/HDTV

The only other ruling I have seen has been that specific sets must have a tuner that can accept an HD signal, but the TV itself does not have to be high-definition )in the quality of the image that it replicates)... and of course these dates are not going to be enforced for another 5-10 years, easy. Heck, the digital/analog signal deadline isn't even until December of 2006 (and thats not even a firm date)

Not sure if I will get a 360, but I got an XBox here in Iraq that is pretty nice. Has 3 80 GB HDs, 27 games pre-installed, you can burn all your DVDs and CDs and pics to it as well. it also has these neat skins that are movie clips. I'm not savvy to all the shit on consoles, but everyone here thinks it's pretty bad ass. Dude named Hayder the XBOX Slayer does all the mods.

Microsoft signs Marvel and Superheroes for Xbox 360

Microsoft and Marvel Enterprises announced a licensing agreement giving Microsoft exclusive rights to develop and publish massively multiplayer online games using some of the some of world's most popular superheroes.

With the deal, Microsoft will get a stable of stars such as Spider-Man and Hulk for its next-generation Xbox 360 system as it does battle with arch rival Sony, with PlayStation 3."

the screenshots from that racing game were simply amazing. Additionally, they were taken on an alpha 360, with only two cores.

Pics of an xBox 360 controller with a thumbpad. I had heard about this from someone who saw Sigil Games use one while doing a demo of Vanguard. Definitely adds great potentnial to games and what they can allow with the interface (MMO's much more doable for a console)

Considering that wavebirds still run $35 I don't see $50 as being out of line for next generation. Of course these are MSRP too so you will see these go down and go on sale.

Well the $50 price doesn't include a battery pack which is sold separately and also the Play and Charge thing is separate.

Microsoft most likely will charge $50 for their first party titles as mentioned by a MS rep.

The main issue here is that the Core system ($300) will NOT include a hard drive while the Premium system ($400) will include it. Developers have known this from day one but now it is evident that the advantage of having a HD for caching and loading reasons will not be uses this time around. Of course developers have the option to take advantage of the HDD that some consumers will have but it will be solely up to them to implement any type of usage.

...apparently the scene was rendered without a framerate hit, although we certainly won't be seeing 35,000 spectators on a single track corner in the final game. However, Bizarre does promise in the update that we can "still expect many thousands (yes, thousands) of spectators per track" and adds that "Seeing all of these virtual spectators shuffling around and waving their arms is a memorable sight.
