Kyle Wiltjer is the best jump shooting invertebrate of all time. it's a shame his body is mush because he's highly skilled and actually has some legit post moves. he's also worthless defensively. flaws aside, he does bring a lot to the table and it'd be cool if State got him.

This guy kind of screams Gonzaga. Can't really see what about our team would appeal to him.

Supposedly Barber, Anya and Freeman will get on campus and enroll in the 2nd summer session. Not sure about Lee or Washington.

I just want Anya to get a jump on that treadmill.

Him being in game shape this year would HUGE (pun intended) for our success. But I wouldn't bet on it.

I guess I should add that their first game is tonight at 7pm.

Thanks for the link. I don't see any others.

As I mentioned earlier, barber, anya and freeman are supposedly enrolling in the 2nd summer session. it's a good sign that washington and lee (and lacey) are playing in this, looks like they'll be around this summer too.

Get ready for NC Pro Am reports on how shitty BJ Anya is. Only the McDAA game is a worse place to showcase his talents.

Gott getting it done. Little stuff like this shows that he is earning the paycheck and building.

Lots of great points above regarding this foundation of players committing to our program and how promising that is long term.

Great things happening.

I don't get the BJ Anya hate. First off, the guy isn't nearly as fat as you make him out to be. He's a big BIG dude, but I've never looked at a pic of him and thought "fat" (unlike Kennedy Meeks).

Second, he has a 7'9 wingspan and a ridiculous 9'3 reach ... it's said to be the longest in the history of basketball. He won't dominate an AAU-style pickup game, but he'll be impossible not to notice.

Quote :
"When thinking of the biggest, baddest, and larger than life high school and collegiate players with gigantic wingspans, one usually thinks of Shaquille O’Neal, Alonzo Mourning, Greg Oden, and most recently Anthony Davis.

But one player named Beejay Anya, may have a larger wingspan than them all. ...

^I completely agree. I said it on the last page. He is a monster and I don't care if he is heavy. He is going to dominate inside and throw shots like we haven't ever seen at State.

I think calling him fat is easier than saying he is unathletic and somewhat of a stiff. He can lose weight, so that gives us some hope that his being heavy is why he doesn't move well.

Washington looks much more likely to contribute early than Anya simply because of the athleticism.

^^ Tommy Burleson, Thurl Bailey, and Todd Fuller would all like to have a word with you sir (probably a couple of other guys too).

Sorry I used that "we" word loosely. I did not have the pleasure of ever watching Tommy Burleson or Thurl Bailey block any shots for State. And although I was alive I was too young to remember Todd Fuller. But yes they are the greats, but I am optimistic that a guy with a standing reach of 9'3" can equal them if he works hard.

I love the guy's potential, but unless he trims up a bit, he's going to be pretty useless for us next year. He is slow as fuck and has only gotten bigger (not in the good way) since he committed. He is coming to Raleigh early, so there's hope if he can put some time in the weight room.

^That's a good point, someone to matchup with a Withey or a Reggie Johnson will be huge in situational match-ups, even if he's not able to play 35 minutes a game.

Eesh:

Quote :
"However, his footwork is not clean and he only blocks shots with his right hand, so more experienced and agile big men will be able to work around Anya."

Quote :
"On the offensive side of the ball, there are also some limitations. The problem for Anya is that he’s relied so much on his overpowering strength, he doesn’t have much else going for him.

He can’t score outside the paint and other than a pretty decent head fake, he doesn’t possess any back to the basket moves. If he can’t simply bang an opponent out of the way, then he’s not going to produce much. He is capable of getting to the free throw line, but he’s not a strong free throw shooter.

Worse yet, I’ve listed Anya at 275, but I’m not sure how updated that really is. I’ve read a mixed bag of reports. Some say he has gained weight, while others have said he is slimming down.

The fact is, Anya has a reputation as someone who doesn’t always give 100%, especially if his teammates are struggling to get him the ball. The last thing he needs is a conditioning problem heading into college.

MOST freshman big men haven't developed post moves and a reliable back to the basket game. Tim Duncan didn't develop his until college and early NBA years, Boozer basically finished Dunks in college. It doesn't mean they can't be a presence and develop them.

We haven't many defensive presences inside over the years....

Simmons was a bit of one. McCauley had his moments. Powell and Hickson were pretty good shot blockers...

Has any school in d1 history had more undrafted guys leave early entry?

Costner, powell, Leslie, ta McLendon, Derek Morris... who am I missing? Not counting guys like Ferguson and Thomas
