"Tyler Lewis (2012 PG):
The attention and awards for NC State commit Tyler Lewis keep on coming as he was named 1st team 2012 HoopHall. Why is this significant? Well, at this point it really should just be expected since everywhere this kid goes he’s impressing people. Many thought he’d fade away some when taking on better competition at Oak Hill, but it’s been just the opposite. Lewis has excelled on the big state and is now recognized as one of the top pure PGs in the nation. Here is the Hoop Hall 1st teamers.

2012 Hoophall Classic All-Tournament First Team
Shabazz Muhammad, Bishop Gorman (#1 player in 2012)
Nerlens Noel, Tilton (#1 center in 2013)
Tyler Lewis, Oak Hill
Aaron Thomas, Brewster (4 star, ranked 56 in 2012, committed to FSU)
Kyle Anderson, St. Anthony (#2 player in 2012, committed to UCLA)

As you can see, Lewis is in some pretty elite company as he keeps defying the odds and has gone from ‘he’s a pretty solid player,’ to ‘he might be the best pure PG (pound for pound) in the last 10 years.’ Keep doubting him and he’ll keep proving you wrong. At this rate, it’s not insane to think Lewis will be thriving at NC State by his freshman season.

Amile Jefferson (2012, F):
According to a free article on scout.com , Amile Jefferson’s decision may be coming soon. While it was said that Amile was down to NC State and Kentucky, it seems now like his hometown school, Villanova and ACC powerhouse Duke are making up ground.
“Duke was always a school I had interest in,” he told Scout’s Evan Daniels. “I’ve been talking to Coach K. You go there, you know you have a chance to compete for national championships and be the best team in the country.”

So if Duke really wants Amile why did they wait so long to go after him? And will that make a difference? I think the answers to those questions are ‘because they missed on the guys they really wanted and no, it won’t matter.’ Those around Duke are already hinting that he’s leaning that way, but no one can be sure since he hasn’t even taken an official visit to Duke. Amile has been very secretive about his recruitment and is taking his time to make sure his decision is the right one.

Gottfried and company have been on him the hardest of anyone and NC State is still in his rumored top 3. We’ll have to just wait and see with this one. My opinion is that it could go any way right now. There’s not concrete info out there.

Ricardo Gathers (2012, F)
We’ve talked about Gathers (2012, F) a little bit over the past 2 months as someone who the Pack is really looking at bringing in if they could get him. They really want the 6’6, 235lb 4 star athlete, and sources were saying that they could possibly take Gathers AND Jefferson if both wanted in. With Jefferson now a question mark, the recruitment of Gathers becomes more important.

According to CBS’s Jeff Borzello’s twitter, Gathers has NC State, Baylor, St. John’s and Florida in his top 4. He said while Kentucky and Duke are recruiting him, they’re not showing enough interest to make his top 4.

Picking up Gathers would be huge. He’s a tweener at 6’6 but he’s a physical specimen who plays the game with no regard for life. He’s a monster on the boards and in the paint and loves to throw around his weight. We’ll keep an eye on this situation over the next month and keep you updated.

Andrew Young (JuCo)- (2012, C)
Every year we get the question about NC State and JuCos. Why doesn’t the Pack recruit these guys when there is a need? Well in the past the just haven’t found one good enough and honestly the junior college ranks aren’t littered with high IQ, high talent players, but State may be onto one.
6’9 center Andrew Young out of Monterey Peninsula College in Cali is lighting up the competition. He’s leading the state in both scoring and rebounding and according to this blog, has 29 DI schools recruiting him, however only NC State has a confirmed offer on the table.
According to reports, Young is a versatile big who plays physical and works hard. We’re still hoping to see some video on him sometime soon. We’ll keep you updated as a decision here is still a long while off.

I can't remember who it was because I was only half listening at the time, but someone on 99.9 said that they haven't seen a passer like Tyler Lewis since Pistol Pete. They went on to compare the two for about 30 seconds...nothing but good things. I think it was either Gravely or Telep fwiw

Never thought it was a remote possibility, but could Tyler Lewis play in the McD's game? The following article mentions the weak point guard class. Taking that into account and having Tyler playing some of the best basketball on a top-ranked HS team... pipe dream?

I would expect to see the McD's people to choose higher profile combo-guards instead, but it's fun to dream.

Quote :
"3. There are enough high level point guard for the 2012 McDonald's All-American Game

Much has been written about the weak point guard class in the 2012 class. Perhaps the point guard class as a whole is subpar, but there are at least four All-American type point guards who will be fun to watch in the McDonald's All-American Game. At 6 feet 8, Kyle Anderson has such supreme court savvy and a multifaceted skill set, one can't help but think of Magic Johnson. It's a shame Kris Dunn didn't play in this year's Hoophall Classic, but a national audience should have the opportunity to witness his electric game this spring as is the case with Indiana signee Kevin Ferrell. Oak Hill Academy's Tyler Lewis wowed fans with his play on national television earlier this year, and he was just as scintillating in his game at the Hoophall. And Dominic Artis continues his rise up the charts. His all-around play versus Simeon was thoroughly impressive. "

I've seen Noel mentioned a few times. Is there any reason? Are we in it with him? I've seen Syracuse, UConn and UK mentioned most. I think he is a Tilton guy (where Alex Oriakhi went) and maybe Providence is in on him too.

from reading a few article about purvis this year, it sounds like he's not even trying to score, being more of a distributor, and he's still avg'ing 27, 7 and 5

More Purvis attention:

Quote :
"Purvis keeping up with the Pack
By Derek Medlin

Although Rodney Purvis has been focused in on Upper Room basketball and his senior season, he's frequented NC State games throughout the season and has become a regular behind the Wolfpack bench.

Purvis said being able to watch what State's offense looks like in person has been enjoyable as he prepares to make his way to campus in the fall.

"It's good when a coach can tell you how they do things, but it's better when you can go out and watch it for yourself," Purvis said. "They have been doing really well. It's a big change from last year and everyone seems excited. The fan support has been great.""

Of course, so did every other HS player in Iowa, but at least they are on there.

I'll be happy if we get Gathers, because he should end up being a high-intensity player and a 4-year guy due to his height. It's frustrating watching a guy like Leslie dick around on the court sometimes, knowing that he's gonna jump ship before he reaches his potential here. Not sure if that's a concern with Amile, but with a guy like Gathers, you can count on him to be here 4 years and bring it every game.

from Telep's Blog:

Lewis should be in McDonald's game
When Tyler Lewis gets to NC State, it's highly likely he will be the team’s starting point guard, but he’ll have to earn it. My take is that 75 percent of the time he’ll be the best point guard on the floor during ACC play. He’ll control the game and win his matchup until a speed demon makes it tough for him or a bigger guard locks him up. Otherwise, he’s going to do his thing and eventually be one of the top assist men in Wolfpack history.

That being said, Lewis has earned the right to be a McDonald’s All-American as much as anyone. There isn’t a Raymond Felton or Derrick Rose point guard prospect in this class (unless Kris Dunn evolves into that guy). What we have is a collection of good players and Lewis is absolutely one of them. If you grade on upside, he’s not in the first five. If you look at production and reliability, he’s definitely on that list.

Notes
T.J. Warren (Durham, N.C./Brewster Academy) is one of the most efficient shot-makers in the country. Few can match his natural touch -- even on difficult, contested chances.

Hubert Davis, of all people, did say he thought Zo was the best PG in the ACC right now.

He'll get his fair share of love if we can stay competitive the rest of the season. I like how he always has his head up every time he taking the ball down the court.
