"BC defections continue

In a series of defections from the Boston College basketball team, which included swingman Rakim Sanders and guard Brady Heslip, sources familiar with the situation say that 6-10 forward Kevin Noreen, who signed a letter of intent to play with the Eagles last fall, has asked for permission to transfer.

While new Eagle coach Steve Donahue granted Sanders (who could be heading to Fairfield) and Heslip (who visited Boise State this weekend) their releases [granted? I heard they were basically told to leave], no such release has yet to be granted for Noreen.

Noreen finished his career at Minnesota Transitions Charter School as the all-time leading scorer in Minnesota prep history and was named Minnesota's Mr. Basketball this season."

It's getting ugly in Chestnut Hill.

Carson Desrosiers has already said he was staying with wake. he's an important piece but they already have big men; albeit averagely skilled. they need mckie and chennault the most with terrell and tabb in the second tier. they'll need a 3 after AFA left and there isn't really anyone to run the point with ish gone. terrell is supposed to be a dynamic scorer but they have stewart and harris, who had fairly successful freshman years. tabb is a question mark. i've heard good and bad things about him so we'll have to see how he pans out.

NCAA Tournament sites for 2011, 2012, and 2013 have been released. I've bolded the cities in ACC country. It kind of sucks that there aren't any places within an easy driving distance that host the 2013 games besides the Final Four being hosted in Atlanta.

http://www.nbebasketball.com/w3/2009-0921/ncaa-tournament-sites-released-for-2011-2012-2013/

In 2011, here are the host cities for the 1st and 2nd round games:

Charlotte
Chicago
Cleveland
Denver
Tampa
Tucson
Tulsa
Washington DC

Regional cities include Anaheim, San Antonio, Newark and New Orleans

The 2011 Final Four will be played in Reliant Stadium in Houston (TX).

In 2012, first and second round games will be played in the following host cities:

Albuquerque
Columbus
Greensboro
Louisville
Nashville
Omaha
Pittsburgh
Portland

Atlanta, Phoenix, Boston, and St. Louis will be 2012 regional cities.

The 2012 NCAA Tournament Final Four will be played at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans (LA).

In 2013, cities hosting 1st and 2nd round games are:

Auburn Hills
Austin
Dayton
Kansas City
Lexington
Philadelphia
Salt Lake City
San Jose

Regional sites in 2013 will be Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and North Texas. The NCAA has left one location to be determined (likely the location of the 2014 Final Four).

The 2013 Final Four will return to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

Considering the players on the team

Quote :
"PG: 5*Harrow, 3*Javi
SG: 5*Brown/3*Williams
SF: 5*Leslie/3*Wood
PF: 4*Howell/4*Painter
C: 4*Smith/2*Vandenburg"

And that we probably won't have a 10 man rotation, who gets relegated to bench/mop up duty?

I know painter is a big prospect who would be pissed at not getting PT in his 2nd year, but vandenburg seemed to play better than painter (who never impressed me) at least on defense (although he was hopeless on offense).

I'm not sure who is better between wood and williams. Maybe we should put williams in as the reserve for most games but have wood start against FSU.

Wear twins not returning to UNC

Freshman basketball forwards David and Travis Wear - McDonald's All-Americas and Best in the West selections as seniors at Mater Dei High - will not be returning to the University of North Carolina, their father told the Press-Telegram tonight.
Dave Wear said he discussed the decision with Tar Heels' coach Roy Williams earlier in the evening by telephone and that he hoped that his sons would be released from their scholarship agreements with the school ``as early as Thursday".
Wear wouldn't offer any details as to why the players (who took their last spring semester finals today) were making the move other than to say ``they decided they didn't want to return to North Carolina.
``When they return home (in Huntington Beach) we will sit down as a family and review their basketball and academic options,'' he said.
The twins were among the country's most heavily recruited prospects in the class of 2009 and were sought after by a multitude of schools - UCLA and Arizona were believed to be among their finalists - before they committed to the Tar Heels in the spring of their junior years at Mater Dei. They signed national letters of intent in November of their senior seasons.
Travis Wear played in 32 games for the Tar Heels this past season, averaging 10.3 minutes, 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
His brother played in 27 games - missing the final five games because of a hip injury that required surgery in early March - while averaging 10.5 minutes, 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.

i hated those guys anyway, but this kinda puts the team's ass in a sling for the short-term

between these tards, stepheson, and the rumors of drew earlier, california should never be recruited again

^ yeah he had like his best game against us and even hit a damn three. Neither Wear twin was ever going to be anything special so it really isn't a big deal, but it does hurt UNC's depth in the short term. Both of these guys were very overrated coming out of HS.

[Edited on May 6, 2010 at 4:37 PM. Reason : selby]

Also the wear thing is actually good for unc. They weren't who we thought they were and now UNC can bring in 2 extra 5 star recruit in the next class that will actually turn out to be black, fast, and good.

They're replacing two guys who were all-americans and multi-year starters. They have a bunch of role players, Selby who could be a star but is a freshman, and the Morris Twins (one of whom has star potential)

Their expectations aren't really much different than the ones I have for our team next year. Top 3 finish in the Big XII, probably sweet 16

The wonder twins leaving UNC means theres a good chance UNC doesn't make the tourney next year.

Cmon, the wear twins weren't going to take unc to the tournament. They were just bodies. Unc making the tournament all depends on barnes and marshall being who we think they are. If they are legit 5 star players as freshmen unc will be a top 20 team next year. They have a lot of good players. Henson will block everything and he and barnes will be impossible mathcup problems. They have all the pieces.

Kansas-If selby is a brandon jennings type star then they have the pieces around him to be an elite team in this down year

The wonder twins are very very average players, but you can't expect success from a 2 man front court.

Maybe so, but they NEED bodies, especially tall ones. They're going to be fucked if Henson or Zeller gets injured (and we all know Zeller WILL get injured), which will require them to play Barnes and Graves in the post which will obviously be a disaster.

they will run. the suns have a 1 man frontcourt. barnes can slide down. they will have trouble defending tracy smiths but will block anything driving and won't have trouble scoring unless its from behind the arc.

yeah cause they'll be able to score at will downlow when Zeller breaks his leg and Henson gets moved out of the paint when the HVAC system accidentally blows on him

fail.

They run (which is of course their style) and you need bodies because sprinting for 40 minutes straight makes one incredibly tired and injury prone.

The suns play more than one person in their frontcourt

pls to troll better. I wouldn't even bother with you if I weren't bored.

barnes is likely to be one of the best players in college basketball next year. The type of player that can score anytime anywhere.

Drew will create, graves will shoot and as always, UNC will get layups over and over just by running up the court real fast.

Then I hear things like Marshall is going to be an elite guard and MCdonald could develop his stroke the same way wayne ellington developed his and the team becomes scary but thats both heresay. The rest of the stuff I said should be EXPECTED.

^amare played almost the whole game lastnight. Frye is like an NBA version of graves he just sits around on the arc most of the time is not a real cneter and could potentially go inside now and then (graves had a surprising amount of inside plays last year)

Amundson and collins barely even play. They don't even play a quarter. They had grant hill on time duncan lastnight.

here's what I said about the suns: they play more than one player in their frontcourt.

that's a bunch of lies? Amare only plays 34.6 MPG. I'm pretty sure there's about 12 minutes a game at his position and 48 at the other post position.

Frye is 6'11. Graves is 6'6.

Just stop, mang.

Theres about a five inch difference in the nba. smith is 6'7. Kobe is 6'7. college guards are 6'2.

GRANT HILL WAS ON TIM DUNCAN

They play them ONE AT A time. That was the point. The suns don't play 2 post players at a time. They play one at a time and unc has a similar situation. Except they have 2 guys that could play center and get lots of minutes while the suns are down to one with lopez out. Its the same thing as zeller getting hurt.

I'm not really sure what your point is supposed to be. Graves is a 6'6 wing. Frye is a 6'11 center. Henson is too skinny to play center and Zeller is fragile. Are you suggesting that if Zeller gets hurt Graves will see time at Center?
