http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/audio/id.852/title.nas-f-jay-z-black-republicans

Black Republican stream possibly off the Nas album, if they will put it on. They're talking about leaving it off, which would be lame.

the last three are from his reasonable doubt concert at radio city music hall, where he did 44 Fours, they're extras, probably on a bonus cd

j_hova posted the full album

After listening to it a second and third time, this album is straight. You see the growth in Hov. Shit is fire. And Dig a Hole and Kingdom Come are the two favorites right now.

i not too impressed with this album. I like Jay and all (no homo) but it's not exactly what i thought it would be. I guess my expectations were too high. I think ill go listen to reasonable doubt to heal the pain... 6/10

Started off strong... I avoided "Show Me What You Got" like it had AIDS whenever it came on TV/Radio, so I'm not that burnt out on it, I can still tolerate it... lost some beef in the middle, tracks 9 and 10 can fall on a bed of thorns, then it ends well. Minority Report especially surprised me, Jay only flows for like 100 seconds on it but says so much... and here I was thinking everyone was done with Katrina stuff.

i think part of the problem is the production and the hooks, i mean none of the songs really have the hook everybody sing along too. but the lyrics are on point, love the shoots at game, cam and even dame . he also speaks on some real shit in minority report.

this album is growing on me a little bit the more I listen to it, unfortunately Hov's past albums didnt have to "grow on me" for me to like them

there are a few songs that I really like (Kingdom Come, Do you wanna ride, Trouble, Beach Chair..) a few that I cant stand (Hollywood, Anything..) but overall there are more songs that I like than I dont like

i'm so fucking glad i havent listened to this album yet

i went through a couple rap phases in my life but the current one i've been in the past year to 1.5 years has been mostly like down south southern three 6 style crunkitude...but based on how much i thought jay z was overrated before(after the black album was a huge disappointment imo) and based on the posts in this thread....i dont think i even WANT to download this

Atleast he realizes he can't rap about hustlin on the corner anymore. He recognizes he is no longer a ganster. One has to respect that.

Lyrically it is as good as it gets, but the choice of beats is shitty. Still better than most hip hop albums released in the last few years, but doesn't touch Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint 1 or 2, or the Black Album.

One of the most introspective albums in mainstream hip hop. If Jigga didn't sell like Nelly, he'd get respect from all. If somebody would just shoot him, we'd call him the greatest ever. If we measured art the way we judge sports there would be no debate about this. If we could judge rap like baseball, he'd be Babe Ruth. but since art is judged subjectively, he'll always have haters.

^umm... as much of a Jay fan as I am, he doesnt sell like nelly. Nelly, while he sucks, has had a diamond album.

That is true. He also doesn't sell like Eminem. But total album sales are very comparable and Nelly's last dual-cd effort wasn't the success of volume 2, volume 3, blueprint, blueprint II, black album were. I would also venture to say, Nelly won't have another album sell 5 million. Jay is an truly an anomaly in rap. That type of consistency is just silly. LL COol J is the only other rapper that could me mentioned, but that's without the little bit of street cred jay still has and LL fell or for a litle while.

Listening through this album a couple of more times made me feel that this was a good album. It felt a lot like Vol. 3 in my opinion. Sure, it's not Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, or my personal favorite, the Black Album, but it's a good album if you're in the need of a Jay-Z fix. A little more for the classy and grown-man status.

blueprint 2 deserves the mentions because it sold. and those Timbaland beats were just sick. If it wasn't a double disc it wouldn't get any disrespect.

I mean Blueprint 2 sold more than Outkast's southernplayalistcadilacfunkymusic and Atliens combined. Outkas has had a string of successful records. the first three were somewhat successful and the last few making nelly look like Jadakiss according to soundscan, not yearly like Jay. And the last two albums have relied almost completly on top 40 radio. But you're right, Outkast has had been successful for a long time.

when did sales start = good?

if youre talking sheer numbers and marketing power, then ok

but dont try to equate artistic merit to gold/platinum status

I wasn't claiming sales=good. I was talking about sales. comparison to Nelly. Something must be said for the market deciding what is good. It obviously isn't the most telling factor. But if something truly sucks, why would anyone buy it? I am not saying Blueprint 2 is a classic album. But it did sell and it was one of the better albums of 2002. It wasn't illmatic, it wasn't the Chronic, it wasn't even Stillmatic. But sales does not necessarily = bad

didn't read the thread- haven't listened to the album yet (affraid i will be dissapointed)-

J is amazing and already a legend. just like a lot of other artists (none on his level of course)....

once they lose the whole "street" mage where they were more concerned with keeping it real then making money they fall of.

see:
50 cent
Eminem
Ja Rule
Puff Daddy (although never any good really)
Snoop
Ice Cube

Why are Pac and Biggie (aside from being shot and causing all the hype) ???

because they always kept it real
