I'm addicted to pasta. I could eat it for three meals a day if it were good for me. I think that is the only thing I will truly miss.

Hah... probably not the expected post for the top of a new page in this thread.

So, I will put it back on track. I was taught how to do a proper jackknife yesterday. My abs hate me today.

i was just going to suggest quinoa pasta. my doctors wrongly diagnosed me with a gluten allergy a few years ago and even though i am actually not gluten intolerant, i have found a love for quinoa pasta. rice pasta SUCKS - do the quinoa it doesn't stick to the pot (add a bit of olive oil just to be safe).

Past month of eating

first 15 days average
Fat: 81g
Carbs: 287g
Protein: 141g
Calories: 2420

2nd 15 days
87g fat
284g carbs
170g protein
2530 cals

i'm kinda disappointed in myself. I wasn't watching myself close enough and basically didn't lower my fat or carb intake at all. Only thing i did do was up my protein intake, but it's not >200g like I had originally planned.

Now that the year is coming to an end, I'll give my personal updates, based on goals posted on 12/28/2010:

Quote :
"Here are my goals thus far:

1) 100-mile bike ride, Tour de Cure, on March 6, 2011
2) Sarasota half-marathon on March 13, 2011
3) Some marathon somewhere at some time

I also probably will have to lose about 10 to 15 lbs to be fast enough to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Have to figure out how to do that in a healthy manner. I'm ~130 lbs at 5'7" right now.

Dropping alcohol will prob help.
"

Got thrown for a bit of a loop a couple of weeks after setting my goals, as this year got really crazy.

1) Did not do the bike ride
2) Skipped that run, but did the OBX half-marathon last weekend in 2:04 ... not as fast as I wanted, but I'm running another half in about 3 weeks, so the goal is to break 2 hours
3) Didn't pick a marathon for this year, but will do one next year. This will be my 4th, so I just want to wait until I know I'm properly trained for it.

Dropped in weight from 130 to about 117 lbs today, which helped with running. Also reached the 500-mile run challenge about 3 months into the challenge.

What nutritional supplements do y'all take?

I take calcium supplements (I'm lactose intolerant, so it's hard to get enough calcium), a women's pre-natal vitamin and glucosamine supplements. Is there anything else that's good to take to help with athletic performance and overall health?

I wish I could do protein shakes with lots of vitamins ... those typically turn my stomach.

"1) Century Ride (Tour de Cure in June - did the 64 miler last year)
2) Olympic Triathlon (already signed up for it in July)
3) Would like to do a half marathon.... Not sure if that'll fit into my triathlon schedule
4) Run 500 miles in the year1) "

i thought i had more than this but oh well.

1) century ride, completed. i kind of forgot to train (only did one training ride of 40 miles) so that was, um, interesting
2) Olympic Tri - completed the one in September on the OBX
3) Half Marathon (first ever!) completed Last weekend
4) according to my handy thing that i was running with, i only did 205 mile. there were definitely runs where i wasn't tracking, but i know i didn't hit 500.

3 for 4 ain't too shabby.

^^ Congrats on accomplishing your goals!

I just signed up for the Rugged Maniac race down in Jacksonville. There is a 1/2 off living social coupon for anyone interested. I did it for the first time last year and had a great time.

Just had one of my female clients run a sub 2:00 half-marathon (her first race longer than a 5k). She only ran 3 times in the 2 months leading up to the race.

That just goes to show you, how little you have to run to get a decent time.

On a personal note, I still hate running.

I quite literally rolled out of bed one morning at 7 AM and did a 2:05 half marathon. Honestly, 10 minute miles for 13.1 miles isn't that difficult.

It was in April, I ran about every other day, never more than 5 miles on any given day in January, then did absolutely no running in Feb, March, or April.

I need to get my ass back on the bike, out on the road, and into the pool immediately. Still want to do a half ironman distance tri next year. Could be tough considering I've done none of the three disciplines in at least 3 months.

I do need some new fitness goals. After I do the half iron man in 2012 I'll have done quite a few "milestone" type things.

half century bike ride - check (on multiple occasions completely solo)
century bike ride - check (with one other person, 151 miles actually)
mile swim - check several times over
half marathon - check

I have no desire to do a full marathon, although I have no doubt that I'm capable of it. Like packman92 I loathe running. Pretty much burned myself out on it as a kid.

Anyone have any suggestions... I'm much more motivated when I have an end goal in mind. I'm willing to try just about anything, although something new would probably be best.

If you're relatively in shape, you can run a half-marathon in a short amount of time.

I have little to no time to work out these days due to my work schedule. I used to work out a couple of hours a day. Now I'm lucky to carve out 30 minutes for a quick run. I used to run fast. Now I'm just happy that I can run, clear my mind and enjoy 20 to 30 minutes of alone time.

I don't really think time matters ... it's just a matter of getting yourself in shape to reach a goal. As long as you're happy and healthy, then you've achieved something that you should be proud of.

If you enjoy mountain biking (or want to try it), try ORAMM http://www.blueridgeadventures.net/oramm/

63 mile bike ride, off road, 11k ft of climbing. Most riders are gonna do it in 6.5+hrs

That's my next endurance goal. In the meantime, I am having alot of fun doing cyclocross races most weeks.

At last check my bp was around 100/70, my resting pulse was in the 50s. It's probably not that good now, but I can't imagine it's gotten significantly worse.

Maybe I will get back into more serious weight training, but I doubt I'm going to pursue a 500# deadlift.

I agree that strength is a GOOD goal to have.

That being said, not everyone wants to be "as strong" Matt

I think a more general guideline would be:

2 x Bodyweight deadlift
1.5 x Bodyweight squat
1 x Bodyweight Press

I will back track a bit and say the goals I posted would take a serious trainee, with average genetics, about 2-5years of competent training to hit.

I almost on my third year of proper training methodology and I'm about 10% away.

I think most people with a little work could acquire the standards I stated (the press might be iffy)...but I agree it would take more dedication and a good program/diet to hit the numbers you want/posted

My own goals resemble yours, except I also want to snatch 200+ and Clean&Jerk 250+

So according to Matt, my goal lift numbers should be the same as begonias'? Choosing arbitrary numbers certainly makes more sense than considering the size of the person.

Skwinkle, it all depends on your own goals. If you want to be stronger than Begonias, yea, you've got to lift heavier than her.

Of course, different people's anthropometry (body dimensions) and weight will give them an advantage in certain lifts and skills. Some people are blessed, some cursed, but the great thing is hard work and proper training can close the genetic gap significantly.

However, we live in a concrete world. Someone who can lift squat 300lbs is stronger than someone who can't (within the context of leg strength).

This is why there are sports with weight classes, and there are also sports with out them. Relative strength is very important; but overall strength is too.

your body fat has to be off the charts low for a female

Everybody has different preferences for what they like in body type, but she is definitely not unhealthy.

I might like a tad more thickness, but I think she looks great. I also respect the hard work and discipline it takes to look like that. So kudos iheartkisses!

Yes, I get my period. I'm around 15 or 16% body fat, which is normal for an endurance runner. Scary low for a woman is 10 to 13%, which is okay for bodybuilders and figure/fitness competitors, but only when they're competing. I'm normal for a female athlete.

So no exercise at all? Or weights?

I don't belong to a gym, so running is the easiest exercise. And most enjoyable. Would prob lose muscle if I stopped running, which would be bad.

The bf prefers current size over 150 lbs option.
